Drinks Are On You || Clint & Tony

Clint was glad to be back. Vacations were great, really great, but working with SHIELD and The Avengers? Even when things were at their worst, at their most physically and emotionally draining, they were ultimately better. Work was, of course, the thing he’d wanted a break from in the first place, but breaks weren’t as satisfying. There was no thrill, no larger goal to sitting on a beach or in a hotel room doing nothing. Breaks were just that -- a break. A chance to reboot. There was probably a reason most people were only given a certain amount of vacation time a year: because they didn’t really need it as much as they needed work and purpose.

If anyone knew about purpose it was Tony Stark. It wasn’t just because he owned a multi-billion dollar corporation, or because he was one of the leaders of The Avengers; it was because he built an artificial heart while being held captive by terrorists, busted the hell out of there in a flying suit of armor, and then changed the fucking world.

Clint really liked Tony. He really liked all of The Avengers honestly, but he felt like Tony was somewhat of a kindred spirit. Sure, there were a lot of differences between the two of them, but they were the same in all the senses where it mattered: they both loved classic rock, they shared similarly dry senses of humor, they were both 100% human (which, in their line of work, was way more rare than Clint would ever have imagined), Clint liked to shoot stuff that went boom while Tony liked to build stuff that went boom, and last but certainly not least, they both liked to drink. Tony maybe a little more than Clint.

That last bit was really why Clint was looking for Stark so soon after he got back. That, and living alone in a hotel for a month was, well, lonely, and he could use his friend’s company. He found the man exactly where he expected to -- his lab at Avengers Tower. “Don’t tell me you’re working on another AI program.” Clint quipped as he entered the lab. “We all know how bad that last one turned out.”

Dealings in the Dark | McCoy and Stark (Blood Star Aftermath)

The red-brown of dried blood stained Henry’s cobalt blue fur, making it purple and matted down in places. Dirt was smudged across his body in other places and there were numerous small tears in his action suit. It was late now and people everywhere were still celebrating Earth’s victory, but the mutant doctor had wandered away from his friends and colleagues. Fireworks were being set off, bonfires lit, and alcohol consumed. Let them celebrate, he thought. They all deserved some small happiness after the Hell that had been the last several months. Hank did not feel like being around people right then. He just felt tired. More tired than he could ever remember having been. But now, after such a long time, he could rest. The past year had been the most trying of his life. More trying than fighting Magneto or Norman Osborn and more trying than losing Flash Thompson or even Jean Grey. Dahlia Hsiao, the woman he had loved, was dead, along with millions of other people. Henry had failed to save them. Earth had been failed by all her heroes. Yes, they had won the battle against the Foesitians, but it had almost been too late. Walking amongst the rubble of Detroit, the geneticist spotted someone else sitting away from the partying back at base camp. At first Hank was unsure who it was given the poor lighting conditions, but as he approached his suspicions were confirmed. Tony Stark was all by himself under the shadow of crumbled skyscrapers. The inventor had a distinctive scent of metal, sweat, and cologne. Hank figured he probably didn’t smell fantastic either. “Salutations, Stark,” Beast managed to croak out of his parched and raw throat. “I expected you to be alongside our compatriots, partaking in the revelry.” He lowered his large form to sit next to the Avenger. Somehow Henry felt even more tired. Like he could fall asleep right then and there. There was silence between them for a moment. Turning to Tony, the physician finally spoke again. “This battle feels as if it has resulted in a Pyrrhic victory,” Hank stated, the exhaustion present in his voice. “Multitudinous losses were sustained today as well as over the course of this year.” @tonystarksliquorstore
