at starbucks.  in the corner are three small tables in a little row--the seats I personally covet most.  a man is sitting at one of them: the middle one.  it’s early and the store is mostly empty.  it’s highly likely he had his pick of seats when he arrived here, but even if he didn’t, I can’t imagine both of the other ones were filled, so either he sat down directly next to someone as a power move OR there was no one there and he took the middle knowing it would force someone to sit directly next to HIM if they wanted to avail themself of the corner’s privacy, thereby scaring off intruders OR

he just didn’t think about it.  probably he didn’t think about it =v=
