There was a point in time when I was about to graduate high school that getting made fun of at school, coming home to emotional and verbal abuse from my parents and the rejection I felt not being able to understand why girls didn't like me broke me. Part of me died that year. The part of me with strong emotions and a lot of compassion for other people. Since then I've been relatively emotionally detached. It was once a mechanism of survival for me to be able to turn off all emotion and act in a robotically rational way. But now the fact that I have a hard time sympathizing and empathizing with people is hurting my chances at any kind of relationship. I'm sorry if you've ever felt I was too cold.
