Consider the following:
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT was a beloved Democratic president who was so popular that he was elected three times!!! FDR helped end the Great Depression with the Emergency Banking Act, and he brought stability to the banking system with the FDIC, by ensuring that banks had to cover people’s deposits. FDR is famous for a series of domestic programs he enacted in U.S. between 1933 and 1938 that are known as the New Deal. In the first New Deal, Roosevelt set up in 1933 the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA), which gave grants and loans to states to operate relief programs; the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which in 9 years employed 3 million young men in manual labor jobs related to conservation and development of natural resources; the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), which by 1935 increased the income generated by farms by 50% by paying farmers subsidies to reduce crop production; the Public Works Administration (PWA), which spent over $6 billion to built large-scale public works and drove America’s biggest construction effort up to that date; and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which provided power, controlled floods and modernized agriculture in the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly affected by the depression.
Social Security and a Federal Minimum Wage were set up under FDR’s administration.
The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, which introduced the forty-hour work week, established a national minimum wage, guaranteed 1.5 times the hourly rate for overtime in certain jobs and prohibited most employment of minors in oppressive child labor happened under FDR’s presidency.
FDR’s administration created the Fair Employment Practice Committee (FEPC) to prohibit racial and religious discrimination in the national defense industry. This was the first national program directed against employment discrimination. (source) (source)
I could go on, but my point is this: Pay attention. Who do Nancy Pelosi and other centrist Democrats constantly praise? Ronald Reagan, perhaps the singular Republican president most responsible for undoing much of Roosevelt’s New Deal.
As recently as late September and early October of 2019, Nancy Pelosi said she still did not support impeaching Trump. How is that possible??
Look, centrist Democrats could praise JFK, or any number of progressive presidents, but the fact that they repeatedly genuflect at the alter of Reagan is both revealing and deeply problematic.
Someone please explain it to me? How can centrists still be calling for “moderation” and warning voters against the Democratic Party going “Too Far Left” when the U.S. Supreme Court is a rubber stamp for Trump, the Republican Party has become a fascist party, and we literally have a white supremacist in the White House???
How do you see all that and say, we need to be more moderate on our side?
How do you see all that and not say, maybe we’ve gone too far right on our side?
