hey! 2024 smacked me upside the head, and I ended up stumbling into this community & writing, frankly, an obscene amount of fanfiction. it's been wild and thrilling and oddly healing, and I'm grateful for all of it (and all of you). who knew writing filth could be so wholesome?
so, in honor of celebrating this year... let's look back at some personal highlights!
I had so much fun hosting my angst writing challenge this summer - it brought me to so many pals and had me weeping all over the place as entries came in :,) I definitely intend to bring the challenge back someday (and others, let's be so for real) but if you haven't checked out the masterlist, add that angst to your tbr <3
it's been a hot minute since I've made one (making nearly 50 moodboards for my follower milestone celebration did slow down my moodboard mojo but I've been missing 'em) but I've loved making my pedro pascal cinematic universe au moodboards this year! they let me exorcise ideas without getting bogged down by 100 impossible-to-write wips, and some of y'all ANGELS have written amazing fics based on the boards. I'm working on a masterlist of fics inspired by the boards, so keep an eye out :,)

Emily never met a fic she couldn't turn into a series, but once in a while she tries to contain herself:
What Was I Made For (Frankenstein AU Tim Rockford; Tim is our titular "Creature" but there is nothing monstrous about him. I cried while writing this!!!! 😭😭)
Photocopies (S1/S2 Narcos Javier Pena; does it still count as a one-shot if it's a follow-up to a one-shot I wrote the year before? And if I plan on writing more "one-shots" for the same couple? Another angsty one for these two as they're kept apart by Javi's poor decisions and dumb [affectionate] self-sacrificing nature 😔)
Instalment of Series
I write mostly series, so here are a few chapters from last year that I'm proud of:
Ch. 19 The Betrayal from Safest with You (Modern AU Retired Mob Enforcer Din Djarin; this is my first and longest running series - my baby 🥹. With this chapter I finally wrote that scene; you know the one you think up originally and end up building an entire story/series around?)
Hold On from The Rockford Portfolio (I will always think of this Tim Rockford fic fondly because it was born from such a fun, spontaneous coming together of the community after @mrsmando asked which Pboi is a Tiddy Guy, and together, we forever cemented Detective Rockford as a Boob Man).
Ch. 2 - White Chocolate Macadamia from Mi Galleta (Modern AU Pero Tovar; I spend a lot of time pouring over bike diagrams, biker images and biker Tiktoks for this chapter where we give our scary bouncer a sports bike. It was really hard work 🤭 Also, Protective!Pero 🥹)
Part 1 of Strawberry Shortcake (Frankie Morales goes to a strip club and falls in love with a cocktail waitress; this one came out of nowhere and was mainly vibes, but I love it. When I wrote it I knew I was leaving it on a cliffhanger, but had no idea where I was going to take it [Narrator: she took it to 22K words in total])
Smut
Having only started writing in 2023, this was an area of major insecurity for me! So, this year we practiced, practiced, practiced:

Challenges
I think Jo also said recently that writing can often be a lonely activity, solitary in nature. Whenever someone hosts a challenge or writing/fandom event, it goes such a long way towards alleviating this loneliness, pulling us out of our isolation - it's really so, so nice. People who host, you're gems 🥹
Agent Hephaestus (Pedro Pantheon hosted by beskarandblasters; an allegorical telling of Agent Marcus Pike as Hephaestus. The hardest thing I ever wrote! At one point, I printed this out and edited it old school style, literal pen on paper😂😂)
Dance for me (Mootboards and minifics hosted by @yopossum. Such a fun idea and remains the prettiest moodboard on my blog 😍 Happy to be able to give Detective Tim Rockford a silly detective case plot [my favourite fiction genre to read] and patting myself on the back for adding a few Strawberry Shortcake easter eggs as well 🤭)
Brandy by the Fireplace (Trope-off hosted by @auteurdelabre. The trope I chose was "Fish out of Water" so naturally, we had to go with Frankie Morales. Self proclaimed City girls and anxious girls [gn], I hope this one speaks to you. I've never disclosed this before, but this one is inspired by true events 😭😂).
The Might of the Realm (The Glandolorian challenge hosted by @beefrobeefcal. My first love, husband, Din Djarin in a canon compliant post-S3 story that fits into an AU that has been living in my mind rent free since that last season ended. Maybe I'll write more for them, because as stated before - Emily never met a one-shot she could leave alone 😂)
Hidden Gem
Dodge (Vigilante AU Javier Pena, aka what happens when Emily thinks of a way to write that Daredevil fic that's been rattling around in her brain since 2018. This is really unlike anything else I've written - I'm a big Marvel fan, but probably won't ever write MCU fic [I do read a fair bit though!] so I'm proud of the way I was able to weave story elements from two of my fave fandoms together. If you read it, a) um I love you and b) tell me if you're also a Daredevil fan and if you're getting those vibes 🥹🥹)

2024 marks the year I started writing fan fiction as a creative outlet and coping mechanism for ::gestures to the outside::
Never did I ever expect to find such warm, lovely moots and have so much fun participating in fandom. And the utter talent and creativity (the fics! the gifs! the moodboards! the paintings! the sketches! like OMG y'all are incredible!!) blows my mind every day.

I know technically it needs to be a series that's finished, but it's my first fic, so it has a special place in my heart even if it's not done yet.
My favorite chapter to write from my Hold Fast Series (Frankie x f!reader) is either Ch. 5 - 5 Courses (because I got to flex my food writing chops) or the latest chapter, Ch. 7 - Coffee & Donuts because it was so fun to write.
Looking forward to writing more in 2025 and maybe get my Joel fic outlined and finally drafted.
Ceramics
Acacius Mug 1.0 helped me figure out the proper ink setting to print the decals and firing schedule/temps. While the kind of rustic look of this glaze is growing on me, I think future iterations will go with a white glaze to allow the images to pop more.
I have some ideas for a Joel mug (uh, I might have found some sheep overglaze decals so bby can finally have his sheep farm) and a Frankie mug for 2025. Next time I hit a follower milestone I will do a giveaway of this mug if you think ppl would be interested? Idk.
As for my other ceramics work, I finally had a moment (freaking 3 years in) where I like the work that I'm making. Excited to see it progress in the next year and try to sell my work more regularly.
i'm not used to praising myself bc i am my biggest hater, not my biggest fan, but i was tagged by the lovely @gothcsz to participate in @jolapeno 's 'tootathon' challenge, and i originally was going to pass up the opportunity butttt i suppose i'll *try* to say nice things about myself but i love the people in this fandom so i always enjoy participating in the fun, particularly something that promotes positivity when fandoms can be so toxic sometimes. honestly, i might need to steal this idea and make a positivity challenge for the resident evil fandom (which is what i primarily write for) because we are in need of good vibes…
*because my blog is multi-fandom, my masterlist is getting big overall, so i'm going to link my javi fics and my joel fics (along with my liztober '24 because there are a couple other pedro character fics on there)
i haven't been a part of the pedro pascal fandom for long, so my work here is limited, but i will share a few things:
it's never over (javi p x reader) - a two part fic (part one is from javi's perspective, part two is from reader's)
I really liked the concept for this fic and it was something that I wrote bits and pieces of for a while. I tried to change it to a single pov because i think i’m not someone who does well with pov switches like this, but it never captured the full scope of the story i wanted to tell when i tried to make it only javi’s or only reader’s. Ultimately, while i’d like to add onto this fic because i would like to expand upon reader’s pov, i like the story that i told in the end (i love angst). Maybe there will be a part 3…
2. and for dessert? (javi p x reader) - a short, mildly smutty story about javi and a housekeeper at a hotel
i hated this fic for a while because i got caught up in the numbers but i reread it last night and i was like, ‘okay, the concept is incredibly silly, but i guess in some way, that’s the point’. Anyway, when i looked back and stopped focusing on the numbers, i realized that i actually really like this fic, and probably wouldn’t change anything about it.
3. anniversary antics (joel x reader) - joel and his wife getting it on ... heavy breeding kink here
i wrote this in an hour or so. it just came to me. straight from the smutty brain (which is rare). this is one of the few fics of mine that i re-read and actually think 'oh this is hot'!
4. everything's bigger in texas (joel x reader) - for my liztober celebration! reader loses her virginity to joel and it's a sweet and short smut.
this is my second most popular tumblr post of all time (so it doesn’t need promo here), which is very funny because i almost didn't post this at all. i thought the size kink might be too basic and overdone but i also really wanted to write an 'older' reader as i have a tendency to write younger readers (which is partially because i am 24 and have never been older than 24 vs i have been 21 etc.) and i wanted to get away from the typical innocent virgin thing.
and also, we're gonna get personal here... i'm pretty sure i have vaginismus and so it's really really difficult to have sex. i've been shamed or questioned rather than reassured during situations where i struggle or am entirely unable to. reader in this fic was not specified to have vaginismus because i was trying to keep it light and smutty, flipping it around into a size kink, but it was a bit healing to write tbh.

I think as creators we should be proud of every work we allow to be shared with others. I love it, and I think it's healthy to gas ourselves up now and then.
Cherry, Cherry was my first foray into fanfic writing. I thought this would be the only thing I'd ever write just because it took up such large space in my heart that I feared there wouldn't be room for anything else. Then, as happens to us all, other WIPs started peeking their heads through and asking 'what about me?' and so I continued. And I'm so glad I did ❤️
Halftime Show still makes me blush when I read it. I don't remember what came over me but I had so much fun during the process. The sequel is still in the works, but it's going to be bigger and (I hope) better!
Like a Good Girl Should was written in yet another frenzy where I just had something in my brain that I needed out. And it’s so much fun to write Joel as a sleaze 😏
As a bonus I'm adding Law of Attraction and if love be rough with you, be rough with love even though they're not yet complete. The former is so much fun to write, sweet and breezy. The latter is darker, with twists and turns and I'm definitely gonna toot my own horn when I say I don't think there's any story like it.
Last but not least, my favorites are also the friends I've made on this platform, the people who've let me into their inbox just to scream about a certain character or even just to spitball ideas. I look up to all of you and am inspired by your amazing talent every day! If I could give you all a big hug I would. Love y'all 💖

this is probably the number one thing i loved and hated about 2024. Joel is such a complex character with such nuanced behavior, he's very overwhelming for me to write and really get that "Joel tone". Furthermore, bc I write Pedro's specific Joel, I really try to replicate the accent he uses, which is not as Southern as Game!Joel. In any case, I'm really proud of this AU that hopefully manages to feel the same and all together different. I know I can get in my head about these things, so I really appreciate your patience!

there's just something special about this fic for me. i often have these big lofty ideas for multichapter fics that stretch to 90K+ but who has time for that?? this fic was an encapsulation of what i want to write more of: throwing the reader into the middle of the story, with enough history and an established relationship that the stakes feel important and real - but it's literally just a oneshot. (and of course this fic inspired me to outline a ten chapter fic, but sometimes i can control myself.)

Intro : 2024 has taught me a lot about myself as a writer, and an individual. I am grateful that I have a space where I can express myself freely, and the opportunity to create and connect with all of you 🤍 this year proved to be a challenging one for me and many others, but 2025 is on the horizon, and I plan on doing everything I possibly can to advocate for myself, and I hope you all do the same! I know firsthand how difficult it can be to show up for yourself, to chase your dreams no matter the obstacles, but if 2024 has taught me one thing, it’s the reality that you only have one life. There truly are no do-overs. No second chances, no rewind button. To allow your fears of failure to control you is a disservice to yourself. Show up for you, always.
