see the thing about tc's gang in jellystone is like. tc and benny are exactly the same as they always are. that's just tc and benny. and even as a woman, choo choo is literally the exact same. not even a little bit different. that IS choo choo. of course choo choo would transition and become the weirdo lesbian she was meant to be. thats just canon to me. brain is kind of similar to how brain is characterized in the comics, so i guess she's not really different? personally not really my favorite version of brain, to me brain is best when he's forrest gump as a cat, and jellystone brain just isn't that. but she's fine, she's close enough.

but jellystone fancy and spooky... i dont know who the fuck those are but theyre not fancy fancy and spook. those are impostors. jellystone fancy i at least like, i think he's funny as hell. and that's the point, jellystone's point is to be funny not sensical. so i'm fine with the thing among us impostor pretending to be fancy fancy. but spooky... the only thing i like about her is that her existence allows me to proclaim that all previous depictions of spook are women but otherwise she's nothing to me. im grateful i live in a world where i can look at hellcat spook from top cat begins and actively decide that she's a woman and there's canon basis to it though. so thanks, i guess

my ideal modern day top cat reboot (not just tc and/or the gang serving as side characters in an ensemble cast in a hanna-barbera crossover cartoon) would be like,

tc and benny are the same as they always are (selfish hedonistic get-rich-quick schemer and his naive childhood bff enabler)

dibble is a private investigator (like he's always wanted to be) who is tc's other childhood friend (boyfriend) whose investigations somehow always end up intersecting with tc's schemes even when he's not actively investigating tc. i cant decide if i want him to stay human or not tho (dog dibble au my beloved miss u baby)

trans lesbian choo choo my beloved. weird and emotional, and constantly talks about her girlfriend lola glamour (theyre so t4t)

non-committal flirty serial monogamist gold digger fancy fancy, based on a mix of his cartoon personality and comic personality. like if fujiko mine were a catboy, who will sometimes betray the gang but they barely really hold it against him. tc doesnt, anyway

oblivious math wiz brain who is probably nonbinary but he's got finances to go over so he doesnt really care about that right now.

roxy from the scrapped reboot finally gets to join the gang :) she can have jellystone brain's personality since he's not using it. she also has something extremely gay going on with spook

then side characters would be like,

myra and sheldon live in the city and periodically get involved in tc shenanigans! myra is very much so a neurotic worrywart who is constantly freaking out over the ways her twin brother's schemes can backfire. sheldon didnt really have a solid characterization in his book so maybe he can have jellystone fancy's personality?

kitty glitter from top cat and the beverly hills cats can be recurring because i like her <3 to me shes so lupin-iii-sadgirl coded

lola glamour gets to appear now and then and gets to be so annoyingly sappy pda with choo choo. has a lot of mentions and cameos though cuz shes still a star and shes dating choo choo who adores her childhood best friend turned lover <3 <3 <3

dibbles ex-wife periodically shows up and tc hates her soooooo much which is ironic because theyre kind of parallels. foils. the same but different. i would emphasize them being so similar and in fact that she reminded him of tc is why he married her and she does not like that one bit. self indulgent but i really dont care <3

i think they should have two kids (fred and daniel, based on comic dibble's names) just because i think it'd be funny as fuck. am i making him even more like zenigata? sure but my justification is dibble is a little league coach and camp counselor which is stereotypically things dads do to connect with their kids :P

jazz and beau can be recurring antagonists with their own gang that being dark parallels to tc's gang. teehee.

trixie from the first movie can be a recurring character too but only if shes an irredeemable antagonist in jazz's gang. the rest of jazz's gang consists of pantera from top cat begins, rocky from the comics, and skratch gets to exist separate from spook.

i guess griswald could be recurring since he had two eps and in the comics there was a recurring antagonist who was a bulldog but i dont care enough about griswald to expand on that idea

- oh wait he can be the actual cop since dibble is a PI now. duh. he literally became a police dog in one ep so it works.

cop cat from the comics can be griswald's partner although i think he needs a better name than "cop cat" ... maybe fuse him with officer prowler so he gets a cooler name. idk

you know this is random but in the top cat comics theres one story where dibble briefly flirted with a cat girl and another story where its mentioned off-hand that he actually was dating a cat girl at the time, so like. ive been portraying mrs. dibble as Also A Human this entire time but what if mrs. dibble is, in fact, actually a cat girl..............

(sitting on the curb and staring blankly at the sky) if patrick is charlie's cousin on his mothers side and they both have the last name dibble that implies that dibble was mama dibble's maiden name. and either mama dibble never changed her last name after marrying would-be papa dibble and they both agreed that their son would take her last name... or, get this, charlie dibble is an illegitimate bastard baby. and i cant decide which fascinates me more specifically in the context of top cat being a cartoon from the 1960s about characters who would have been born in the 20s or 30s, and all the societal norms and expectations that come with it

a top cat/lupin crossover wld be funny cuz youve got the big-hearted, emotional, kind of easily manipulated but stupidly absurdly brave cop who values doing whats right over necessarily following the law or even following orders, and is obsessed with arresting one (1) sneaky charismatic swindler who often flirts (with him!) as a diversion tactic but is also simultaneously one of his best friends, caring about him deeply, and would be so utterly crushed if anything happened to him. sitting around and weeping about it type of crushed. and his marriage literally fell to pieces because of his devotion to this one specific swindler. this very specific, very special cop is also often expected to single-handedly capture and arrest notorious thieves and is often just kind of disrespected or overlooked otherwise, but it's not like he's completely disliked either - and you think "hey are you describing dibble or zenigata?" well thats a trick question. its both. anyways in a crossover dibble would get put under zenigatas command by the sarge, who would obviously be on the list of characters who would give zenigata like zero respect whatsoever and just wants him out of his hair. meanwhile dibble would just be like wow :) a real interpol agent... what do you need me to do sir

1. Why do hate dibble wife? 2.if jazz was in Jellystone does it make you happier? 3. Do you hate Mr. Big?

1 - i can't very well hate a character that doesn't actually ... exist as a character. yes, she's mentioned periodically so we know that she exists... but she isn't a character who ever makes any kind of official physical appearance that we can confirm is her. so she has no name, no known design, no official personality, and her relationship with dibble is... not really discussed at any meaningful length? and i have reason to believe they divorced based on context clues, anyways.

so i've got to ask myself a few questions:

"what kind of person would dibble find himself drawn to?" - to which i said, well, someone whose personality would be tangentially comparable to the personality of someone we constantly see him drawn to regardless of the circumstances in canon (that would be top cat) so give her a few traits that he possesses. i decided the traits they share are mildly manipulative tendencies, and greed.

"what kind of person would marry dibble and then divorce him?" - to which i said, someone who expected something out of dibble, and he wasn't able to deliver to her expectations, of course.

"what kind of character would be interesting to explore in the context of a failing marriage and divorce?" - to which the answer is, well. its the 60s, before no-fault divorce. it'd be so easy, and so unsatisfying, to make her a victim. but like... the entire core of dibble's character is that he's kind of pathetic, easily manipulated, and has a big heart. so who is more likely to do something that would result in divorce? dibble, or a nameless, unseen figure?

2 - i don't care about jazz, personally. he could make an interesting antagonist if he had been a recurring character, but he wasn't. they're not likely to make a top cat reboot - and jellystone does not focus solely or primarily on top cat so they're not likely to bring back every single character from top cat no matter how much i really, really want them to. so i'm just kind of like, ah, yeah, that guy exists. i have ideas for things that could be done with him in hypothetical reboots, but, im not that invested in them because he's not my favorite character.

3 - i don't care about mr. big. he's not an interesting character. he exists solely to be a source of conflict and is not memorable to me otherwise.

... it has occurred to me after typing all of this that you may have somehow got the impression that this is a rp blog and i'm in-character as tc, which i'm not, so none of those answers may actually be satisfying for you. but, so sorry to say this, despite my url, i am not top cat or roleplaying as top cat, i just really like top cat the show

at some point i wanna go through and rewatch all of top cat again just to compile a list of fun facts for people whose familiarity with top cat comes primarily from jellystone and likely haven’t seen the original series, just for funsies
