Summary: Hunter Jesse McCree helped towns like this before, where the people were hurting because of something attacking them. He knew what to do, and with his years of experience he could get the job done swiftly.
However, when McCree encountered a new addition to the usual job, he was more than welcoming of the change of pace.
Okay so this idea popped into my head and it sounded cute so; McCree pregnant (about 7 months) with their son and their daughter (who was so happy to be a big sister toward the beginning of the pregnancy) is starting to act needy all the time. When confronted, she admits she's scared the baby will replace her and that she won't be loved anymore because the baby is a boy. Of course Jesse explains that isn't true and she gets to feel her brother kicking and gets a bunch of love from her pa. Maybe?
“Is it me or is Himari being a little more…clingy than usual?” Hanzo asks one evening when he and Jesse are getting ready for bed. Jesse, who is glowing in the tranquility of his pregnancy, looks at his husband and shrugs.
“She seems ‘bout the same to me. Aint all four year olds clingy?“ Jesse starts brushing his teeth, looking into the bedroom from the on-suit where Hanzo is getting dressed. He leans against the door, head turning to admire Hanzo as he takes off his trousers, and goes slack jawed when he gets a generous view of Hanzo’s bare ass. He grunts, jerking his brows when Hanzo glares back at him playfully and goes back to brushing his teeth.
It wasn’t unlike Jesse to overlook details, and that became even more true with his second pregnancy. This time round he’d had a much easier time, that he was able to actually enjoy the experience. It left both parents relieved, but it also meant Jesse became infatuated in everything he experienced. He would talk endlessly about how excited he was and how much he actually enjoyed carrying their second child, and as time provided Jesse with the inevitable bump, Himari ends up desiring her fathers attention more. From what was once the thrill of being a big sister became her hanging off Jesse’s leg before he left for a doctor’s appointment. Hanzo had began to worry that if she kept up her temper tantrums and neediness, the stress may impact Jesse in his last few months of pregnancy. The last thing they wanted was for him to have complications again.
Jesse finishes up in the bathroom and waddles over to the bed, carefully settling into the cluster of pillows Hanzo’s set up for him. “Babybear sure is restless today, don’t know what’s gotten into him.”
Hanzo can’t resist touching Jesse’s ballooned belly, rubbing over his tight skin lovingly while Jesse fidgets to get comfortable. “I see you have settled on a nickname for our son.” He chuckles, looking up at Jesse. “What is your fascination with associating our children with living beings?”
Jesse shrugs, folding his arms to rest on the rim of his bump. “I don’t pick the nicknames, sugerpie, they pick you.” He laughs, resting his hand over Hanzo’s when the other man scoffs.
The two share a flirty look before Hanzo moves to hover over Jesse, kissing him passionately. Jesse’s hormones act fast as he moans vibrantly into Hanzo’s mouth, grabbing at his ass and tending to him like he’s dough. Hanzo chuckles darkly, his hands moving up Jesse’s body to grope his fleshy chest-
“Daddy!” Himari toddles into their bedroom, rushing to Jesse’s side of the bed. The couple jump free from one another, panting heavily as they faux an innocence. Jesse accidentally moves too quickly and slams his funny bone against the bed post, cursing loudly as he rubs the sore spot. Himari ignores her father’s obvious pain and clambers onto the bed, crawling between his legs and using his bump like a table to lean on. “Daddy, I can’t sleep.”
Jesse grits his teeth and he tends to the stinging shooting up his arm. “Is that so, honeybee…well have you asked Mr Baa for some good dreams?”
(Mr Baa was Jesse’s clever plan to aid Himari a year back when she refused to sleep without them present. He was a stuffed purple sheep with plush robotic legs and a top hat and scarf, especially made by Lena for her birthday.)
Himari shakes her head, pressing her hands against Jesse’s belly to stand up on the bed. He winces in pain, prompting Hanzo to step in.
“Okay, let’s get you back to bed.” Hanzo reaches over to pick up the toddler but she flails her limbs at him sporadically, landing on top of Jesse and wrapping her arms around him. Hanzo frowns, arms on his hips waiting for her to obey him. “Himari Shimada McCree, you march yourself-”
“Woah there.” Jesse laughs, pushing the little girl up to pull her into his side. “She hasn’t meant no harm.” He turns to face his daughter, smiling brightly. “Will you go with papa? You need your sleep, honeybee.”
Himari pouts, then flashes him her bucktoothed grin. “Will you tuck me in?” She asks Jesse. He looks at her a little startled, gazing up at Hanzo who has a quizzical frown stitched onto his brow, and reluctantly, he nods.
“You gotta get up then so papa can help me outta bed. Your little brother aint making it easy on me these days,” and as Hanzo walks round the bed to pull Jesse to his feet, Himari scoffs under her breath and crosses her arms impatiently. Jesse shots Hanzo a confused look, but leads the little girl out the room nevertheless.
It’s 2 hours later when Jesse finally returns, rubbing his eyes before flopping into the bed. He grunts as a spasm hits his back, and Hanzo rolls over concerned.
“I’ve told you to be careful when laying down-”
“I know.”
“Does your back hurt now-”
“Yes.”
“Would you like me to give you a massage?”
It’s quiet, then Jesse hums. “Yes please.”
After enjoying Hanzo’s tender fingers press into the knots of his body, Jesse settles in for the night and makes a mental note to talk to Himari tomorrow while Hanzo visits Genji.
-
“Honeybee, remember when I told you how you were once in my tummy?” Jesse asked while she haphazardly coloured in the cat colouring book Fareeha bought her.
“Kinda,” She stuck her tongue out while deciding what colour to choose next, going with green for the cats tail. Jesse leaned over the table with a huge grin on his face, Hanzo resting his hand on his shoulder as he stood behind.
“Well little lady, it looks like there’s another baby cooking away in here,” he tapped on his abdomen, finally gaining her undivided attention. “Which means you’re going to be a big sister!”
Himari glanced between her fathers confused, mouthing words she didn’t quite understand. “Your tummy cooks babies?” She asked in a serious tone, rather like Hanzo with his deadpan nature. The two laugh amused.
“What daddy is telling you, Himari, is that we are having another baby. You will have a little brother or sister in a few months.” Hanzo nodded. “Like how uncle Genji is my little brother.”
“So uncle Genji will be my little brother too?” She asked. Hanzo shook his head while Jesse laughed again, smiling at her innocence.
“Not quite. What will happen is I’ll blow up like a big balloon and then we’ll have a baby to join our family. That baby will be a mini you! A playmate for life kinda thing. You’ll be a big sister. Are you excited?”
And even though she was still confused, Himari cheered in delight. The rest of the week she insisted on telling everyone she was going to be a big sister upon meeting them, and that was how Hanzo and Jesse told most people the good news.
-
Jesse roots around the medicine cabinet in search for a moisturiser. He’d woken up with a mild rash over his stretch marks at the bottom of his bump, and after a few innocent scratches, his skin was achey for something sharp to ease his pain. Not only that, but his chest was more swollen than usual and it was causing him to cramp every so often. It seemed the luck of having a relatively easy pregnancy this time round had run out.
“Genji will surely understand if I cancel on him,” Hanzo says as he reaches up to get the bottle Jesse couldn’t find. “I don’t want to leave you alone when you are in distress.” But Jesse shakes his head, taking the bottle to begin applying the cream to his tender skin.
“Not a thing to worry about, Hanny. I’m gonna put on a light vest top and flannel, put my feet up in front of the TV, and sleep away my days.” He screws the lid back onto the bottle and puts it by the sink. “Plus I’ll have Himari, so I won’t be alone.”
“She’s hardly able to help you with an emergency if one occurs.”
“Well stop wishing ‘em to occur then!” Jesse laughs, but he’s cut off by a sharp kick, causing him to wince and sigh. “Now get outta here, cause babybear is cozied up to my bladder and I aint about to have an accident 3 feet from the toilet.”
Hanzo snickers as he pecks him goodbye, rushing out the room so Jesse could relieve himself.
A few minutes later It seems while Jesse is putting on his shirt, Himari sneaks in and walks into the bathroom unannounced, watching him for a few seconds before shouting “boo!”. Jesse squeals in surprise, grabbing his chest as a throbbing pain shoots through him and radiates down his body. He grabs the sink for support, waiting the pain to die down, all the while his daughter giggles fondly and then wraps her arms around his leg.
“Daddy, can we play in the garden today?” Himari asked. Jesse strained to look over his bump, be he just about made out the fluttering of her eyelashes as she begged. He smiled weakly, still holding onto the sink’s edge.
“Maybe later. Little babybear is giving me a hard time, I aint really up for much right now.” He awkwardly leans down to take her hand and pulls her off his leg. “But how ‘bout ya do me a favour and get my phone for me. I gotta call papa and ask if he’ll fetch me something later on his way home for the baby.”
Despite how he flashes her his most sunny of smiles, Himari does nothing but glare back at him before grunting and shouting. “No! I want to play!”
“Honeybee, we can play later. I gotta rest up for a while, okay?” He slips past her and sits on the edge of his bed. He watches as she turns around, and crosses her arms, mimicking Hanzo when he was most upset. Jesse laughs inwardly, raising a brow. “This aint scoring you any browning points, ya know.”
“I don’t care!”
“Really?”
“No!”
“Really?”
“No! I hate talking about the baby all the time. I hate the baby!” She screams, her face turning red as her eyes well up with tears, and while Jesse tries to process the sudden announcement in his stunned state, she runs out the room whimpering and slams her bedroom door. Jesse sits in silence for a few seconds, piecing together what had seemed more than unexpected. With a loud grunt, he painstakingly pushes himself off the bed and waddles down the hall to her bedroom.
Jesse knocks lightly, opening the door a slither when there’s no reply, and finds Himari laying on her front in her bed, completely still. He steps through, watching her for a while. Her long brown hair falls over her shoulder and hangs off the edge of the bed, her arms stretch over the mattress, and her tiny toes wriggle restlessly.
“Honeybee, I think we should talk.” He says. With great difficulty, he leans against the wall and slowly slides himself down so he’s sat on the floor. “Come here.”
Muffled into her pillow, she replied, “I don’t want to.”
“If you don’t get your butt over here well I guess I’ll let you explain to papa why I wound up stuck on the floor, aye?”
After a short silence, she drags herself out of bed and sits beside him on the floor, keeping her eyes focused on her feet. Jesse puts his arm around her and pulls her in best he can.
“Spill the beans then, why do you hate the baby?” He asks. She shrugs against his hold, and he laughs. “That aint gonna cut it for an answer, missy. C’mon, you know you can talk to me ‘bout anything.”
Himari stays stubborn for a few more seconds before wiping her eyes with the back of her hands and looks up at Jesse defeated. “You and papa are going to love little brother more than me. You’re always saying how happy you are and you’re all boys so you will be able to do more stuff with him than me.” She whimpers, sniffing obnoxiously loud. “He’s going to replace me, and I don’t want that.” She begins to cry again, but Jesse pulls her in close, wrapping both his arms around her and damning the pain in his back, holding her is more important. She wraps her arms best she can around his middle, moulding into the sphere between them and sobs into his flannel shirt. He combs his flesh fingers through her hair, the other stroking her back.
“Baby girl, no one could ever replace you. Y’all as much apart’a of me as my heart is.” He leans over to kiss her on the top of her head and pulls back to see her teary face. He wipes away the stray tears with his thumbs and cups her face in his hands. “I thought you were excited too, to be a big sister?”
“I was until you found out he was a boy. I’ll be the only girl. You’ll all do things together without me.”
Jesse rolls his eyes, laughing. “That’ll never happen.” He pauses. “Is this why you’ve been hanging off me the last couple’a weeks? Cause there really aint anything to worry about. I always wanted to have a little girl, and you are even more amazing than what I could have asked for. Yeah I’m over the moon to be having another little’n, but that don’t mean he replaces you, and less so ‘cause he’s a boy.” He takes her petit hand in his and places it on the top of his bump, tapping just above with his metal hand, and waits. Then, on queue, the baby kicks against Himari’s hand, making her gasp, her eyes going wide. She looks up at Jesse amazed, cheeks bouncing as the sad expression is replaced with a smile. He kicks again, harder, and she giggles.
“He kicked!”
“He did indeedy, does it a lot when papa puts a hand on my tummy. ‘Cause he loves him, and he loves you too, ya know.” Jesse removes her hand to roll up her top, and watches as she marvels over how his skin shifts with the baby’s movements. She places both her hands on his skin, careful not to disrupt him, and giggles lightly. Jesse adores how her whole face lifts with her bliss, the same way Hanzo’s does when he’s in a state of shocked wonder.
“He won’t replace me?” Himari asks again, still a little nervous as she looks up at Jesse, her hands planted firmly to his bump. He shakes his head, pulling his top back down and pulling her round between his legs to hug her, her arms around his neck as she stands to the height he’s sat.
“Honeybee, I’ll love you both to the day I die, and beyond. Nothing could replace you or babybear, and that includes each other.” He kisses the side of her head and sighs into the hug, only disbanding the moment when he feels the pressure of the baby pushing down on his bladder again. “And I’m sorry to make it all about the little guy again, but nature calls, and it’s gonna take me a lifetime to get back up from the ground-” but he stops when he hears the front door close, sighing with relief. “Oh thank God, can you go get your papa for me? I aint getting up without some help.”
Himari laughs as she skips off to fetch him, bringing back not just one, but two Shimada brothers. They each grab one of Jesse’s arms, pulling him with great effort to his feet and are left without any answers as he rushes to the bathroom.
Himari tugs on Hanzo’s trouser leg and grins at him, rocking back and forth on her feet when he looks down at her. “I’m going to be a big sister just like you, papa!”
Genji stifles a laugh as Hanzo glares at him, picking up his daughter. “Not quite the same, but close enough. I’m glad you’re so excited though.”
