The Town, a three-part mini-series written by Mike Bartlett, follows Mark (Andrew Scott), who following a family tragedy is sucked back into the trials and traumas of the town he grew up in. Callum plays Ashley, the bad-boy boyfriend to Jodie, who's coping with the sudden death of her parents. A troubled teen and reckless boy racer, Ashley turns out to be much more complicated than he first appears.

CALLUM TURNER : ITV’S THE TOWN ACTOR ON FASHION, FILM AND FOOTBALL Ex-Burberry face Callum Turner tells us about his new acting gig in ITV drama The Town and why his modelling days are behind him

Ex-Burberry face Callum Turner is a London-boy done good, and he’s well aware of it. The model-turned-actor recently showed off his modelling poses for Topman Generation at Topman’s VIP lounge in Oxford Circus, where he was shot and interviewed. Riding a wave of success since his first major role as Aaron in ITV drama, Leaving, alongside British actress Helen McCrory, Turner is settling into his new vocation with ease and enthusiasm. Here, he discusses his return to the small screen in The Town, with current small screen favourite Andrew Scott, leaving the world of fashion behind, and a love of Chelsea FC. TOPMAN GENERATION: What came first modelling or acting? Has it been hard to transition from model to actor? Callum: I have always preferred the idea of being an actor. But I was actually playing football so neither was on my radar. Film has always been part of my life, fashion not so much, and I never grew up thinking I want to be a model. That just sort of happened and I used it as an opportunity to get around the world, and go to Japan or America. I was 18 years old, so I couldn't believe my luck. I don’t know what I’d be doing if I wasn't for acting, probably something to do with football - I love Chelsea FC! Topman GENERATION: Has your experience modelling given you an advantage going into acting? Callum: I think there are a lot of comparisons because you are in front of the camera but actually they are very different. It’s helped me in terms of being able to walk into a situation like this and just being able to talk, because you meet new people every day. There are so many different fashion tribes out there. I think I purposely stay away from that because I don’t want to be put into a box. Topman GENERATION: Has working in the fashion industry helped your personal style? Callum: I’m quite laid back as a person, so my approach to clothing is quite simple. I try to make the clothing as insignificant as possible and work on the person rather than the clothes. There are so many different fashion tribes out there. I think I purposely stay away from that because I don’t want to be put into a box. Topman GENERATION: What made you want to work on Leaving? Were you nervous? Callum: I got sent the script and I really liked it. Plus, it’s every boy’s dream to be with an older woman! Topman GENERATION: You’re back on our screens in The Town , alongside Andrew Scott. What was it like meeting him? Callum: I went to the BAFTAs and Andrew Scott was sitting in front of me and then he won. And he thought Benedict Cumberbatch was going to be behind him to say well done, so he turned around and was like ‘who the f**k are you?’ So I told him that story when we first met up. Topman GENERATION: What films do you wish you could have starred in and why? Callum: Goodwill Hunting, A Guide to Recognising Your Saints, Mean Streets. They are all of a similar type of film and have a similar main character. They are characters that I would love to play. Topman GENERATION: So you want to get your teeth into some gritty roles then? Callum: Yeah, I played a racist teddy boy in a play and it was a lot of fun - he wasn't nice at all. Topman GENERATION: Name three actors you’d like to work with at some point in the future? Callum: Meryl Streep, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman.
