Giants fans how we feeling right now
Awe
I’d forgotten how protective Elijah was of Davina. He’s like I’m not gonna let you hurt that child, Niklaus. It’s hilarious that everyone sees her as a mega powerful weapon but he just sees her as baby. Sure, she’s a powerful baby, but so was Kol.
Anyway this makes his general amusement of her in s2 extremely hilarious. Marcellus’ daughter is in her terrible twos. That white oak stake is a problem but it’s easy enough to take care of.
I remain extremely upset that they didn’t get more screen time together. On the bright side, nothing in canon contradicts my headcanon that she reminds him of Kol.

moon over bourban street
Elijah: be responsible! You wanted to be a king so be a fucking king
Klaus: I REFUSE
Elijah: I suppose I'll enable you by doing your work for you!!!
New Orleans: if Elijah doesn't enable Klaus in this way everyone's gonna die.
Where I am truly loved
The power dynamics between Klaus and Elijah remain, as ever, fascinating as hell to me. Klaus is counting on a little bit of vulnerability to get what he wants if he can't get it by force. And this mirrors their fight in the pilot - Klaus is trying to appeal to his humanity/feelings, like Elijah was able to do to him.
But Klaus is so hilariously self-centered and barely capable of seeing Elijah as anything but an extension of himself, he totally misses what he needs to say and do to get Elijah on his side.
I'm complaining a lot about how sloppy the amnesia plot was, but one thing they did get right is that Elijah would figure out his past. He'd dig until he did. And, of course, Marcel would give him what he needed to choose to stay way: trust yourself. You left for a reason.
And, like any rational person, amnesia Elijah takes one look at his family dynamics and like 'yeah, no, that sounds horrible. Let me stay with this sexy lady and play music.' And Antoinette is a good match for him, because she's giving him what he needs in order to choose himself in the way he does. Mindfulness, being in the moment, choosing to shed a past of pain and find what pleasure he can in the moment.
But he's still Elijah. He gives Rebekah and Klaus emotional support in the beginning. He legit upset at killing to survive. Marcel's words about how he's doing it for a kid who means everything to him to strike a chord inside of him. Murdering a club of people is an expression of pain, not joy in the hunt. He literally tells Klaus why he's not going back: his interpretation of what he does know about his past is that he doesn't think going back will mean he's in a place where he's truly loved.
So, obviously, what Klaus needs to do is convince him that he would be loved with his family. Maybe he could mention how it sounded when Rebekah asked how he was. Or, you know, talking about how he murdered anyone who might hurt Elijah (murder is Klaus' love language). But, instead, he goes on about glorious times being a king among men, which is not something Elijah ever expresses wanting himself. That the story he heard is lacking context of his emotions.
But that's Klaus. Appealing to Elijah's sense of duty and the legitimate purpose he finds in caretaking works when he's got that history to give it context. Without it, he needs to treat Elijah as a person who exists in himself. We see him able to do this with Hope and Rebekah, but not really Elijah.
Anyway I love these horrible brothers even if I'm not happy with their ending.
