I got In the Light by The Lumineers.   

Time, give me my yesterdays // Save it for all you had in your eyes, I have gone away~*~

“Dance with me,” Brad says.

“What-  Here?”

Here is in the middle of a small park tucked away in between townhouses they stumbled onto.  They are on the road, in DC, and it’s the first day of the year above 60 degrees.  Music, a lively 80s song Patrice can almost remember, is drifting from one of the open windows above.

Brad starts dancing in response, hips and knees and arms moving in beat to the music with giddy joy if not a lot of skill.

Patrice laughs.  They are meant to be leaders these days, veterans, adults with families and neat houses.  And yet, there is something to this weather, to the sun shining so happily in the blue skies, that makes everything lighter, better.  

He steps into the patch of sunlight that has become Brad’s impromptu stage--Brad whoops happily--and lets the music overtake him.

And they dance.  Brad’s beaming at him with his whole being.  When they are done, Patrice buries his head on Brad’s shoulder, because he can, because he wants to.  He is laughing like a kid, feels so light, he half-expects to take flight.  Brad’s hand immediately comes to rest on his back, fingers curling around a fistful of his shirt.  

He smells like spring and Patrice wonders why it is this memory his mind keeps coming back to, over and over again.  In the dead of the night, he can still feel Brad’s palm through the layers of fabric.  At dinner with his kids (they are taller than him these days) he can still hear him say ‘you call that dancing? My grandma has better moves than you.’  But he is laughing too.  He is laughing and Patrice would give everything to stand in a sequestered park in DC, just the two of them, and dance with him again, in the afternoon sunlight while music drifts from a window high above.

nope dhskdjsjd very much not my thing 😩 the most i’ll do is like, jumping up and down at concerts but i don’t even do that unless it’s a very hype song and everyone else is
