True connectivity with the reader
“She’s stuck between a rock and a hard place; not wanting to exist in this world; but not exactly wanting to die”
“damaged people sometimes only see what they want to; it’s easier to live in a world of make believe.”
This one initially intrigued me. I loved the cover and the titling had me already falling in love with this author’s wording. Love, and other dangerous things...I was captivated right away. However, the actual tone of these poems felt somewhat lacking for me. I doubt any of these were written unauthentically but at the same time, while reading this I felt it doesn’t seem to captivate the depth of the pain as well as I had anticipated with a pessimistic title like this. It felt very focused on the visual side of the wording style, which I will comment, it does well with, but the raw emotional display was less prevalent in the words than it was in the art. The art however, did hold my interest. It’s not necessarily my personal taste in style but I do think it felt powerful. Each piece I felt displayed something real in the author.

The trouble with poetry is that it won’t always hit the audience in the way one may like. Personally, I understand poetry is a more subjective taste to start and while one may completely disagree with my statements here and believe this to be the rawest material that have ever procured, I just didn’t feel the author was pouring out the vulnerability I personally look for in poetry. I felt it was more directed outward than inward, is the best way can describe what I mean by this. However, it was articulate and well produced and for that I will still give it a 2.5 out of 5. Most of these didn’t resonate with me, but I do believe it could hold a lot of value to someone else, someone who this style better verbalizes the emotions of this collection to.
