Protection Bracelet/Charm Spell

When making a protection bracelet or charm there is a lot you should consider.

The first step to making a protection bracelet is to choose the material and the colors. When it comes to choosing the material I just used what I had on hand (Friendship Bracelet Thread), but you can of course choose specific materials. I chose my colors using a correspondences chart a found on this website.

Making the Bracelet:

If you are familiar with Friendship bracelet making you can use a friendship bracelet pattern, if you are not familiar with Friendship bracelets you can do the pattern I used. Here is a website with Friendship Bracelet Patterns

(My Bracelet: Select your colors, cut them to the desired length [About the length from the tip of your fingers to your elbow], tie a knot on one end, [Here I use a clipboard to hold the thread still], pick you first color and while holding the other colors together, wrap the first color around the other colors a few times (About 20), tie a knot with the first color, and then repeat steps 3 to 5 with every color until the bracelet is long enough to wrap around your wrist.)

Once the bracelet is finished, your next step is to perform the Invocation. Below is the one I wrote, since I identify as Norse I used the Norse Goddess Hlin. You may of course write your own invocation. Also, feel free to insert a God or Goddess from your personal belief system in place of mine.

I invoke the Norse Goddess Hlín, If it pleases you, I ask for your protection, To ward off, Spirit and Person alike, that would do (persons name) harm, This bracelet, being made by my own hand, Is a semblance of (mine/their) spirit, May it be a gateway to this plane that you may Stay by (person’s name) side and protect (me/them). By your will and mine, Blessed be.

Side Note: If you have another a piece of jewelry you would like to bless instead of making your own all you have to do is reword the invocation a little; As long as its something you have a connection too, you shouldn’t have a problem.

Properties of Lavender.

Gender: Masculine

Planet: Mercury

Element: Air

Magical Attributes: sleep, long life, peace, wishes, protection, love, purification, visions, attracting men, clarity of thought.

Uses: Has strong antiseptic qualities. Mild infusions (3 tablespoons to 6 cups of water) make a good sedative, headache treatment, and digestive aid. Used in oil or tincture form to heal cuts, burns or scalds,bites. This also acts as a tonic and may be used for colds, chills, and the flu. Lavender is an excellent aromatic, usually mixing well with other floral scents. An ingredient in the Purification bath sachet, also used in purification incenses. It is thrown onto the Midsummer fires by Witches as a sacrifice to the ancient gods. Lavender is a frequent addition to healing sachets,especially bath mixtures, and is added to incenses to cause sleep. Lavender is a great antibiotic, antidepressant, sedative and detoxify. Stimulates the immune system.

Let's get personal... Sometimes you just can't find the tarot deck you're looking for, so you decide to take matters into your own hands. Well guess what? That's what I've decided to do! The first part of my deck planning is done!! Now onto the artwork and such. I would love to hear from any tarot readers out there who are also making there own decks,or who have just thought about it. (I will post progress pictures!)

Choosing A Tarot Deck

If you find yourself reading this post then some part of you is considering purchasing a Tarot Deck. Now you might be wondering, where do I start?

In reality it all comes down to how much you're willing to spend to get the deck that speaks to you. Now I'm not saying you have to spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy deck with all the books and such. Me, personally, My deck cost $10.00 at Books-A-Million when I bought it. It was cheap, and it’s a portable deck, so its small and easily hidden. (At the time I was still living with my parents and they strongly disapprove of pagan beliefs and objects.) But if you have the funds and are willing to spend there are plenty of decks to choose from.

Let's get to it!

How to choose a deck. 

First, Do your research.

Search all the different kinds of Tarot Cards, read about them. Do they come with books? Do you want a small deck? Or a large one? Do you want elaborate artwork? Or does the simple Rider-Waite Deck speak to you? There are a lot of decks out there and it is Okay to experiment with different ones! In fact, some decks may speak to you in different ways than others. For the first time Tarot Reader, the Rider-Waite deck is recommended for help in becoming familiar with the Major and Minor Arcana’s. If you’re having trouble deciding on a deck, the Rider-Waite is probably a good place to start. See the link at the bottom for a look at the Rider-Waite deck on Amazon.com.

Let’s say you’ve found 6 or 7 decks you really like, but you can only get one, Below I’ve provided an Energy Exercise to try that may help you chose the one that speaks to you the most:

First, narrow the selection down to the top 3 or 5, depending on how many you have to choose from. 

Close your eyes. Begin by taking slow & deep breaths, clearing your mind of all other influences. Focus all your energy at your center, forming a circle.

Now, picture yourself sitting in an area where you feel safe and comfortable. Bring to mind an image of the decks you’re trying to chose from. Let them circle you, picture the decks energies surrounding them. 

With a long breath out, Slowly let your energy reach out from your center, searching for the deck it feels the most connected to at that time.

When you feel certain that you have connected to the one you want, thank the energies. 

Slowly begin to bring your energies back to your center, rejoining the circle. Send the tarot decks away and leave the area bringing yourself back.  

Alright, So you’ve done your research. Now. Where do you buy a deck?

Amazon has a nice selection of decks. You can also purchase Tarot Decks from Books-A-Million. Of course, if you’re lucky enough to have a pagan supply store in your town that is certainly an option. One thing to keep in mind: If you plan to buy a used deck (Although it is not recommended), BE careful. Tarot decks absorb the energies of the user and purchasing a used deck could lead to mixed energies and useless results. There are ways to clean a deck, but even still that may not get rid of all the previous owner’s energies, especially if they had a lot of negative energy. Most Tarot readers don’t even let other’s touch there decks. Some let the client shuffle and cut the deck. It’s all in personal preference.
