Torin’s Room by Andrew Smart
I’m gonna have a bunch of updates regarding 3 Dead Trick or Treaters in the near future, but in the meantime here’s an interview I did for local cable! Also featuring filmmakers Lyndon Horsfall and Duncan Finnigan, part of 12 Angry Filmmakers and indispensable aids in bringing 3 Dead to life. Take a gander!
Local filmmaker Duncan Finnigan shot this video profile on me a couple months back, and just released it yesterday! Really happy with how this came together, and there’s some snippets of 3 Dead Trick or Treaters spliced in for good measure. 3DTOT has it’s Kitchener/Waterloo premiere TOMORROW at the Apollo Cinema, on a double bill with Halloween 3: Season of the Witch!
Screening swag! Pop by the Blood in the Snow Film Festival this Saturday at 4:30 to catch the World Premiere of my feature anthology 3 Dead Trick or Treaters! Ask me really nicely and I’ll hook you up with a commemorative button!
Not sure how many people from (around) New York follow me on here, but my friend Torin's short film 'Fondue' on the Saturday of the Tromadance Film Festival in New York City. It's a pretty awesome little film, so if you've got the time you should go check it out! Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92IP3xqW650 http://tromadance.com/schedule.php
Here's a trailer for the short horror film "Fondue", written, filmed, edited, and directed by Torin Langen. A while ago I made a post about Torin's short film collection DVD entitled Waxworks (http://ghostmanufacturingmachine.tumblr.com/post/59451853791/waxworks), where I talked about the 5 film collection, and the Fondue trailer which I'm posting here. Since then I've had the privilege of seeing the short film and can safely say that I was seriously impressed. Without giving away too much detail, the film involves two Trick-or-Treaters taking part in what seems to be a horrifying annual Halloween tradition, known only to a select few. It offers no explanation for the terrible acts which transpire, or who these people are, which proves to be a highly intelligent twist on several Horror conventions. In the near 13-minute running time, the audience is given a short peek into a seedy, mysterious underworld, where we're better off not asking questions about the motive behind the acts we've just witnessed. It's creepy, unsettling, and bloody. Torin's "trademark severed hand" makes another appearance, and I seriously want everybody to watch it. Good luck too, because on October 18th, Fondue, as well as several other short, and long, independent horror films will be shown at the Regestry Theater in Downtown Kitchener. The ticket price is $10 for 4 hours of horror, with all the proceeds going towards the new Candle Flame Films' (Torin Langin's film company) upcoming film shoot. The Facebook Event page is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/674504869226672/ Seriously, don't miss this event. It's both the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit, and celebrate/support local, independent film.
Waxworks
I just finished watching a collection of short horror films written, edited, filmed, and directed by Torin Langen called Waxworks, and I can't believe I didn't watch this earlier. I've known Torin for years as one of those people who I'd run into at the record store every now and then and talk about horror movies, and I sort of knew he'd been making short films since I heard a huge fuss about a film he made in high school called Black Metal Massacre, which I haven't seen, but I hear is worth a watch for the special effects alone. Like I said, I just finished watching Waxworks, as in the DVD ended about 10 minutes ago, and I jumped to my computer because holy crap that was good. The DVD is a collection of five short films, ranging between about 10 and 20 minutes, and are all so low-budget that I'd find it hard to believe they even had a budget in the first place. Nonetheless, Torin proves that when it comes to horror, no amount of money can make up for wit, skilled direction, and a sheer love of the Horror genre. The films are all short, but build up on the suspense in a hurry. The two which really stood out to me were Toolbox Charlie, which involves a lone teenager in the wrong house on the wrong Halloween, and Urban Spectre, where the ghost of a girl who died after being assaulted by bullies comes back to avenge herself on one of the bullies. In each case, the scares are delivered with precise execution, which left me feeling tense, which is saying a lot considering the thousands of hours I've spent watching Horror. The DVD also features a trailer for his most recent short film, Fondue, which, according to the backside of the postcards that came with the DVD, has been gaining praise from the likes of the Canadian Film Fest, Tromadance Detroit, and FilmBizarro.com. I haven't yet seen Fondue, but based on what I just watched, it'll be well worth it. I honestly can't wait to see what Torin has next, and I can seriously see him making a name for himself in Horror, and I feel as if one of these days he'll have and IMDB page which lists "Severed Hand" as a director trademark. As far as I know, Waxworks is only available directly from the filmmaker, but when I find out, I'll add it here.
