So I haven't watched Degrassi since the summer season. Looks like I didn't miss much. I think one of Degrassi's biggest mistakes in my opinion was keeping Eli around past the cancer storyline and it looks like they are trying to fix it. However, I consider Clare and Drew a crackship because I called it at the end of last season as a joke. I think Clare needs to be alone for awhile...but then this wouldn't be Degrassi. I am sick of the revolution of relationships. Teens have more issues than that

Yeah, you really haven't missed much. There have been a few good or decent storylines here and there, but for the most part it's either been boring or frustrating. Season 13 is shaping up to be one of my least favorite seasons of the show yet!

I agree that it'd be kind of nice to see Clare being alone for a little while. She's been in a string of pretty serious/intense relationships for most of her time on the show, so it would actually be kind of interesting and nice for her to be single for a while. It's kind of frustrating that the show never allows its main characters to be single for longer than a couple of episodes. I mean, dating is absolutely a big part of life, of high school, and of media, but it isn't the only priority in most people's lives. Some people don't even date. Some people never dated in high school, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just kind of annoying that the show pushes this idea...and it's almost like they can't see the worth in a character who doesn't date. You can still write plenty of 'drama' and interesting storylines for characters who don't date!

Anyway, I know I've ranted about this stuff before, so at this point it probably sounds redundant and maybe even annoying to some of my followers, haha, but it's just kind of annoying when the show gets so singularly-focused. There's so much in life...and yeah, dating is definitely a big part of life for a lot of people, but it's not the only thing, you know? There's a lot of other stuff that goes on in all of our lives!

I admit I make the Drake in a wheelchair jokes. But I think my favorite story with Jimmy was when Hazel thought Jimmy was falling for Ellie. I think they would have made a great couple. I hated Jimmy with Ashley. I felt Hazel and Jimmy were only put together because they were the only people of color that wasn't Liberty on the show and they needed something to do. Hazel was such a useless character.

I’m STILL disappointed that Jimmy and Ellie didn’t get together! I would’ve loved that. It’s like my top “ship that never happened” on Degrassi. They had a ton of chemistry, and it would’ve been a lot more interesting than Jimmy/Ashley yet again and Ellie continuing to pine for Craig.

I liked Hazel and have always felt like she receives too much hate from fans, but I can’t deny that she wasn’t given a whole lot to do. I wish they’d given her a few more plots of her own. I do agree with you - it sort of felt like they just stuck Hazel and Jimmy together because they didn’t really know what else to do and thought that it’d be another way to make Hazel relevant. Hazel was mostly developed in the context of the people around her — she was Paige’s best friend, Jimmy’s girlfriend, etc. — rather than as her own person. Jimmy and Hazel were sort of cute together and all, but it did sort of feel like the show paired them together “just because,” and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had something to do with them being the few people of color like you said. 

But yeah, I’m still mad about Jimmy/Ellie never coming to fruition!

I am having a dilemma. I loved Degrassi but I am NOT feeling season 13 at all. I don't know if it's because it started slow or they killed Adam. I don't enjoy watching it anymore or blogging about it. It feel like I have to do it eventually but I really don't. It's starting to feel like seasons 7-9 again where I would check and see how they are doing but don't give two fucks. The only storyline I liked was Clare's cancer but that's gone by the wayside it seems. I don't know. HELP!

Hahaha, I wish I could help, but I am in pretty much the same boat, unfortunately! I think a lot of us are, actually. It’s been rare to see many positive responses to season 13 so far. I’m really only watching out of habit. I mean, it’s hard to break a habit that I’ve had going for a decade! 

The show hasn’t really been grabbing my interest lately either. Sometimes I wonder if it’s my age. Am I finally just growing out of Degrassi? I don’t think I am (I still feel like I'm 15 sometimes tbh!). I think that this season has just been genuinely pretty lackluster overall. It’s had some big missteps (like what happened with Adam) and it’s had plenty of little missteps along the way as well. I also have seen a pretty common complaint that it’s just been rather boring…and that the drama has felt a bit contrived. I agree that this has been feeling like those boring transitional seasons like 8 and 9 in particular where I was significantly less invested in the show.

I guess all I can say is that we just have to hope that it’ll pass! :/

For as much as I ramble on here, I'm really quiet IRL...even around my friends sometimes. It's a wonder I still have any!

I just started playing FarmTown a bit lately and I feel kind of pathetic since everyone quit playing it years ago.

My hair is probably my only good attribute.

I'm not sure how much this shines through here, but I'm a pretty negative, cynical, neurotic person. 

I simultaneously fear the idea of living in my hometown forever and fear the idea of moving away from it.

I've always wanted to learn more languages, but I suck at staying dedicated to it. 

Every time I make plans with people I end up sitting around dreading going out even though it usually is a lot of fun.

I prefer APA citation style to MLA. 

Right now I'm really into Judy Garland again. 

I'm not a very good cook. I should probably work on that.

Do you know offhand aside from the award for My Body is a Cage if Degrassi has ever been nominated or won any awards? I think some of the actors at least should be honored for individual achievement. I am not sure about awards in Canada since i am in the US.

Hey! I posted my review (text) of Zombie 1 and 2 on my blog. I was so busy I didn't get to Fiona's kidnapping episode so I am going to say this....I got nothing except...Zig Hulk Smash. I still never got the frozen assets and Fiona is still rich. Hit me baby one more time, Dallas. Pretty much sums it up, right?

I too have had some similar confusion over Fiona supposedly being ‘poor’ when her lifestyle looks basically the same…except she lives alone now! She still has top-of-the-line electronics and can seemingly replace them whenever she needs to. She didn’t even think to get a real job until part one of that episode! Ahh, it’s just too ridiculous. It was even more ridiculous than Holly J.’s “riches to rags” storyline not long ago.

Anyway, I’ll check your review out! Thanks for the heads up. :)

Hi again. So when I heard that EClare broke up I HAD to make a video review. Check it out and feel free to reblog. (6 parts of epic crazy me) Anyway, so Simpson's reference to Degrassi High made me watch Showtime (it's one whole episode) on Hulu. It's almost exactly like Bittersweet Symphony except dark, edgier, and 90's. BTW: The actors on DJH and DH were not trained. They were regular people from Toronto.

Yeah, I did see “Showtime” a few years ago. It was a good episode. I’ve seen a lot of DJH and DH, but I’ve not seen every episode and I’ve not seen them in order. I’ve been meaning to watch DJH and DH from start to finish for so long! I should do that soon.

I’d heard that they were untrained and that they even did their own makeup and wore their own clothes (sometimes? all the time? I can’t remember). It’s pretty neat! Degrassi definitely has changed since then.
