Introductions are a formality

Hello hello there.  My name is Manda, and this is my blog.  Exciting, isn’t it? Okay, so maybe not yet.  But it’s getting there.  Slowly.  Ever so slowly. Annyyywayyyyy...  I am a writer.  I have one short story published thus far and a lot more circulating from magazine to magazine trying to find a home.  I also dabble in freelance work, and by dabble I mean I have an account on Textbroker.  My dream is to write full time, but until health insurance rates go down, there’s no way I’m leaving my day job.  Bummer.  (Day job is in an optical center, by the way.  I sell glasses and run the machine that blows air in your eyes.)  (The puffer is the glimmer of happiness in my day.)  (Little bit of a sadist.)

I’m currently working on finding a layout that I like.  This one has a broken ask button, so it’s on my list of to-dos.  Consider everything under construction for the time being.

I used to rp on tumblr as tornbutterflies.  If you liked my writing style over there, you might like it over here.

I’m going to use this page to update what I’m doing, do a little bit of blogging and idea dumping, and post excerpts of things I’m writing.  If you don’t mind (or get entertainment out of) watching all my shenanigans failures, give me a follow.  I’d say “send me an ask” but, you know, broken ask button and all...

“Ah, depends on what you mean by ‘beauty.’”  Alice leaned back against the pillows piled up on the floor, blunt unlit clamped between her teeth.  “And ‘manufactured.’  The way I see it, people are like caterpillars.  Gotta get the right whatnots to wrap yourself up in to become who you truly are, yeah?”  Her head felt fuzzy and clear at the same time.  “Physical beauty?  Sure.  There’s plenty of ugliness around.  But that’s superficial.  The real beauty, the heart and guts of it all, that you have to grow into.  

Mary rolled her eyes and, already lying flat on one of the larger pillows, went back to staring up at the ceiling. She wasn’t smoking, which being around Alice was already a miracle, but she did seem to be thinking over what had been said. “Name one person in Gotham interested in ‘inner beauty’,” she challenged finally, with a scowl.

She didn’t have time for inner beauty, or the fools who prattled on about it.
