December 1st is World AIDS Day and also HIV and AIDS Awareness Day in Canada. Participants take action through various activities to spread the message of being safe, protecting yourself against the HIV virus, educating individuals and raising funds to find a cure for HIV and AIDS. There has always been an enormous amount of fear and stigma surrounding this disease. World AIDS Day is trying to change this perception.

Deborah McCracken-Nangerede, founder of the Olive Branch, is here all the way from Tanzania to tell us all about the organization's latest developments. She is the outwardly inspiring force behind it all and a lovely lady to be around - we can't wait to hear what she has to say!
The Olive Branch works on various initiatives throughout rural Tanzania, reaching out directly to vulnerable populations and dealing with the great myriad of issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, food shortages, and parentless children from the GROUND-UP.
What we like most about The Olive Branch is that the organization aims to deeply EMPOWER the people and communities they work with, moving away from the all-too-commonplace 'dialectic of need' many people in the first world have unknowingly come to associate with charity-work and vulnerable populations. The goal is to BUILD rock-hard communities and community initiatives from the bottom-up, to establish long-term stability and forward growth and to "generate models that can be replicated in communities throughout Tanzania and further afield."
