VegetarianHaven: Toronto Vegan Eats
Hello everyone! A couple of days ago, Momo and I made our first trip to Vegetarian Haven in Baldwin Village for Momo’s birthday dinner. Vegetarian Haven is an award-winning vegan restaurant that has Asian-inspired dishes. I love that this restaurant is the perfect balance between super healthy vegan food and “dirty” vegan food. They have salads, soups, lots of veg heavy dishes and seitan! It’s perfect!
For drinks, we had an organic hot apple cider and a ginger steamer, which was our favourite drink. The ginger steamer was fresh ginger juice with steamed vanilla almond milk. So perfect.
As our starter, we had a tempura king oyster mushroom and mock prawns in a spicy cocktail sauce. This was my favourite dish of the evening! The mock prawns were incredibly convincing, with stripes and a tail too. But the king oyster mushrooms were my favourite. They had a great meaty flavour and texture. Since some vegans prefer whole foods to mock meats, I think this is a perfect dish for anyone who wants to trick your mind that you’re having meat, without having to have seitan.
Our main dishes were the kale and quinoa salad, and the miso souper bowl. The kale and quinoa salad was perfectly balanced - kale, spinach, quinoa, seeds, cranberries, apples, beets, and a tangy vinaigrette. The miso souper bowl was a rice noodle dish, topped with lots of vegetables, homemade dumplings, and miso broth. Very simple, but perfect for a cold winter day.
If you’re ever in downtown Toronto, this is a great location. Amazing food and relatively close to the downtown core.
Lazy lunch today 😍🤤🥗 mixed leaf salad with dried cranberries and sesame dressing. I would have but extra seeds in it at home but alas I am still in a foreign land 😅 Side of the closest to 'normal' (not weirdly giant) strawberries I have found so far 🍓😂
vegan spinach and cheese quiche from TBC vegan 🌱💛
CBA with anything fussy today so am all about the 4 for $5 mangoes at wholefoods (who are well on the way to bankrupting me 😅)
The usual today. So I'm going to be flying ✈️ out last minute from the U.K. 🇬🇧 Toronto 🇨🇦 due to family stuff and will be living in a best western 🏨 for at least the next two weeks🙁. 😩 Any one have any tips on good cheap food in The area ( more towards Brampton if poss) 🍞🥑🥗🌯🌮🥙and any supermarket foods to stock up on? I will try and blog is much as possible when I'm out there so you guys can see how I do haha. 😅 P.s. Am I okay to smuggle tea and jam into the country haha?
Am still in Toronto at the mo 🍁so went to Hogtown. Vegan restaurant as my dad is here for the day and as I've mentioned before he is very dubious about 'the whole vegan thing' 😂🙄. The food there is crazy good🤤 and I would honestly be surprised is anyone ( meat enthusiast or otherwise) said they didn't like it. Be warned though the servings are huge and it's definitely not low fat or salt. This is junk but in the best way. We had: Hot wings to share 1 bacon cheese burger Side of ceasar salad 1 buffalo chicken burger with a side of chilli cheese fries. 2 beers (both excellent) Managed to eat about half of it 😅 10/10 would recommend to anyone 😍😍
🥗🍝Brown spelt noddles with lots of spinach, vegan quorn, garlic, nutmeg and other good stuff. Soooo tasty and easy. I really love frozen spinach, it's such a money saver 🥗😍🤤 ✈️Just want to say a huge thank you to the people who responded to my last @belongsamongwildflowersxoxo : haha yes that is true. It I'm very attached to Barry's gold blend tea and my all fruit no added sugar jam 😅...marmite has also made it into the bag 😜 @paintedwaves sound advice that I will be sure to follow☺️ @floraxcrossing haha thanks for the tip, luckily I'm a vegan so won't have to worry to much about that!😄 🇨🇦🙏🤔Next advice that would be greatly appreciated is any places in Ontario to eat that have vegan options ( as I'm the only difficult one haha) 🤤 Let me know if you have any ideas guys! 🌮🥙🌯🥗🍜🥘🍜🍛🥞🍔🌭🍕✈️🇨🇦
