HIEMARI ADOPTION! with grim consequences...
gaius + torra don’t know hiemari is the forest god; she transforms and gaius is killed, and torra is forced to leave him behind + gives up knighthood to become a farmer to try to..recover :( (unless?)
(gaius) 33 but looks 50, giving ailing old fire emblem father vibes
(torra) 34 but looks 40, motherly but only to her goats

gaius and torra are like 23 and 24 respectively, they’re knights of the verdance, a force purposefully tasked with protecting the edge of a dangerous woodland (the verdance in question). they’re besties (mb more...) who notice a little girl in the woods while wandering deeper in for funsies, and they’re like oh my god. adoption adoption adoption
the little girl isn’t really responding to their questions and stuff but she certainly doesn’t seem to mind whenever they pick her up n play w her (they visit a bunch of times); gaius is like hey if you don’t have a home why don’t you come to the kingdom with us?? and the girl is like because she is nearing transformation and stops talking during that time. then she stops blinking and won’t follow them when they move away, and vines start growing out of her clothes
anyway one day gaius and torra are playing w her again and they were unfortunately unarmed, the girl suddenly transforms into this huge horrifying vine-covered goat-like monster and starts attacking them (bc she loses control of her body and mind). gaius throws himself Heroically in front of torra and saves her but is killed by the blow, and torra is like screaming and crying trying to get him to wake up but she’s forced to run away without him :(
BUT WHAT’S THIS? gaius survives with like 3% battery life and manages to get out of the forest, but on the Other Side of his kingdom. the head trauma he suffered from the attack cost him a bunch of his memories, and he’s taken in by the church who nurses him back to health n teaches him about god or whatever and he’s like whoa..god
on the other side, torra is devastated and Mad Scarred by gaius’s “death” and deserts the knights of the verdance, becoming a farmer on the outskirts of the kingdom to try to recover mentally. thus gaius and torra are divided </3 they live on separate sides of the verdance for 10 years, with gaius trying to remember his past (but not really that much bc he has these cryptic nightmares about a goat monster and it resembles the archaic death god in the church texts) and torra trying to forget...
meanwhile hiemari returns to the orphanage feeling massive guilt for smth that was yknow, she didn’t mean it, she couldn’t control herself??
idk how gaius and torra meet again, i think torra is facing execution for deserting the knights, and gaius is like ?? WHO IS THIS I KNOW HER FOR SOME REASON? and steps in to stop them, torra is like ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? GAIUS????????????????????????????????????????????????????? and they’re like oh my god sobbing hugging just remembering each other n the life they left behind
torra tells gaius about the goat monster and gaius is like ah. the death god attacked me...i must have been a sinner and he had come to reap my soul...and torra is like girl what are u on about lets get u some strawberry milk
they eventually hold hands again and they happen upon the home of the lost where hiemari lives, she recognizes them n cries n hides behind the caretaker bc she feels so horrible about what happened but caretaker explains about her and they understand it wasn’t her fault, and they forgive her :’) and also visit a lot and hug n play with her n the other children, basically just becoming parents to em all n helping caretaker look after them
