Part 2
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. It wasn’t supposed to happen at all, actually. It was just another mission, another day on the job. You went out with the boys as usual, their assigned medic as theyghost refused to work with anybody else. You weren’t sure why. Maybe it was your soft demeanor, your gentle touch, the way you never judged himthem for anything hethey did. But whatever it was, they liked you, and so with them you went.
You hung back at the evac point, also as usual. Sitting in the truck, first aid kit on your lap, a comm in your ear as you listened to your boys and made sure they were all okay. It was a tense fight, gunshots and pained grunting filling your headset. You were on edge, rocking back and forth as you listened for your que to come in. In fact, you were so focused on the comms that you didn’t even notice the danger you were in until it was too late.
Your first cue something was wrong was when the comms went silent. The sounds of battle filled your ears for hours before getting cut off abruptly. Your hand shot to the comm link, fiddling with it as you frantically tried to reconnect, worried something was wrong.
“Ghost, do you copy?”
“Ghost?”
“Price?”
“Gaz?”
“Can you hear me??” Your voice got more and more panicked as you got no response. You yanked the headset off and shrugged your vest on, kit in hand as you slid out of the truck.
Your second clue something was wrong was when you looked up to see the barrel of a gun pointed directly at your face. You didn't even have time to ask ‘what’ before everything went dark.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hello, princesa.” You blink hard as the blindfold is removed from your eyes. The light is blinding, the splitting headache you got from being pistol whipped only intensifying under the harsh lights.
“Who are you?” You manage after a moment, eyes slowly focusing on the man in front of you. He is large, easily over six foot, and built like an absolute unit. His face is covered by a black balaclava, though his scarred, tattooed forearms are on display.
“Don’t play stupid with me.” His voice is deep and smooth, and if you weren’t in the situation you are in you would have asked him to keep talking.
“‘M not! I don't-"
“Don’t lie to me Princesa. I don’t like liars.” A shiver runs down your spine as his tone darkens.
“But I’m-”
“Ah ah lovie, I am one asking questions here.”
“I wasn’t ask-”
“SHUT UP!” You flinch back at the drastic change in tone, the sound sending bolts of pain through your skull.
“Oh sorry Princesa, did that hurt?” Seriously, you are going to get whiplash from his bi-polar personality, “Forgot you have concussion. Let's get you Advil for that and then we see if you talk, yeah?"
You watch with blurry vision as he leaves the room, slamming the door shut behind him. The sound sends waves of agony through your pounding head, and by the time you can focus again he's back.
All it takes is one well placed blow to the head, an attempt to get you to pay attention, and you're out like a light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I don’t know anything I swear! Please! I don't know anything!” The sobs tear raggedly out of your throat, already raw from screaming. Your voice is scratchy and broken, but still you can't stop begging.
“I don’t know anything” You sob. Those words, I don’t know, had become your motto over the past few daysweeks(?)
“Oh Princesa. I know.” He croons, running a finger down your bruised face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time was meaningless. Has it been 2 days since you were captured? Two weeks? Months? You don’t know. Your meals come at staggered times, and your captors never come at a routine time. The lights turn on and off at staggered times, nothing in a set pattern, a system created to mess with your mind.
Not that you know that. This wasn’t the kind of life you lived. You were a medic for heaven's sake. Your hands had been built to mend, to fix, to heal. Not to clutch at broken bones, to scratch against cement, to be chained and broken. You arewere a gentle creature, not designed for this world of torture and terror.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They no come for you." You moan as the words pound through your skull, nearly unintelligible.
"Wh'...y'say?" You mumble, voice scratchy and broken.
"You're friends, Princesa. They are no coming for you." He sighs and moves next you, prodding your side with his steel-toed boot, "You are replaceable, your skills are easily replicated, they no spend time and resources to find a simple medic."
"They…'ll c'me." You wheeze, refusing to belive that Price, that Gaz, that Soap, that Ghost, would just...leave you.
He laughs in response, digging his toe into your side until your gasping in pain.
"We shall see, Princesa. We shall see."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You weren’t built for this. Weren’t built to recognize the manipulation, the mind games. Weren’t built to survive the two-face man who was reshaping your brain. The man who was your greatest source of pain, but also your only friend. The man that flayed your flesh open, but soothed and bandaged you when it was all over. This man, who was slowly becoming the only thing you could trust in your unstable world. He may bring you unbearable pain, but he brought you comfort too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"That looks bad, Princesa." The man lightly touches the bones sticking out of your forearm. You whine in pain, clutching it to your chest. He chuckles, wiping your blood off on the cell floor.
"Let's get that fixed up, yeah?" His voice is soft, and gentle, and the nicest thing you've heard in a loooong time. His touch is the same, gentle caresses of bruised and broken skin, revolting and appealing at the same time.
Oh, it's utter agony as he sets and stitches your arm with no pain killers. You scream, back arching, lungs heaving, body seizing.
But after? Oh it's heaven. He holds you, cradling you against his warm body, making sure you don't go into shock, telling you you're a good girl, and that you've made him proud. You hate yourself for it, but you can't help but preen at the praise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He brings you a calendar. One month. It’s been one month since you got taken.
“It’s been over a month.” He says, a deep voice tinged with pity, “and no sign of your…friends. I’d give up being rescued if I were you, because they clearly have.” You can barely hear him as you stare at the paper in his hands, 31 days marked off with big, bright X’s. 31 days that you have been trapped here. 31 days that your squad…hadn’t come for you. Is he right? Are they really not coming? Did Ghost really give up on you? Are you-
“Ay Princesa, I even did what you asked. I sent your squad pictures and videos that even the greenest tech member could pull some coordinates from, but nothing. It’s like I said. Your ‘friends’ don’t care for you. They are not coming for you. I am your only friend in this place. Tell me, who bandages your wounds, who feeds you, who makes sure your living space is comfortable?”
“Y-you do.” You whisper uncertainty, “But…you also hurt me, don’t you?”
“Oh Princesa, I wouldn’t hurt ya if y’ would just listen. It not torture if you're disobedient. It's just…punishment.” His voice is sickeningly sweet, “And you just back-talked me. Do you remember what happens when you try to give me sass?”
"I get…punished." You mumble, cheeks flushing with shame.
"Obviously, you fucking idiot. I mean how."
"I…you…I have to do affirmations."
"Look at that, y'r gettin' it!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Say it again." He snarls. You sit in front of a mirror, face bruised, bleeding, and swollen.
"I 'm r'pl'c'able, my friends…'re n-no'...c'min'...I 'm no' l'v'ble…I 'm r'pl'c'…able." You whisper for the hundredth time.
"Again."
"I 'm r'pl'c'able, my friends 're no'...c'min'...I 'm no' l'vable, I 'm r'pl'c'…able."
"Again!"
"I 'm r'pl'c'able, my friends 're no'...c'min'...I 'm no' l'vable, I 'm r'pl'c'…able."
He makes you keep going, repeating those 4 sentences until you literally can't make sound anymore, a fact he tests by seeing how much it takes to get you to scream. You pass out before he gets anywhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ghost?"
"Simon?"
"Please."
"Why are you not coming for me?"
"i'm the albatross/i swept in at the rescue/the devil that you know/looks now more like an angel/i'm the life you chose/and all this terrible danger"
You’re working a morning shift at the bakery when he comes in. The pastries in the case are laid out just so, and you have been meticulously working on this sign for your fall specials. You are determined to focus on something that is not how poorly you slept, your hair tied up in a braid behind you as you work.
You’re determined to get these pumpkin stems drawn correctly; a green marker clenched in your hand. Your knuckles are white with the tension you are holding in your fingers. It’s around eight in the god damn morning, and you have been awake since around three a.m.
You don’t even hear the bell ring, nor do you hear the click-clacking of a cane on the tiled floors, you only hear an awkward clearing of the throat, to which you spin around, about to throw the marker at the customer, but stopping when you realize what you’re doing.
The customer smiles awkwardly at you, and you recognize instantly that between his glasses and cane, he is most definitely blind. You almost feel silly, until you remember everything, and you wish that there was more moments where you think you’re silly for being paranoid.
And there’s something else, too. You look at this man for a few moments, before realizing that he is so god damn hot. Which, is weird, because you have not felt anything for any man or woman in years, too busy focusing on other things, too busy thinking about everything that’s happened. But god, the stubble tracing his face, the way his dark hair falls, and the way his hand wraps around his cane..
But what gets you really is his lips. Maybe you’re staring, maybe you don’t care. But his lips are this pretty pink, and you find yourself getting lost in the nicest daydream you’ve had in a very long time..
And then, you snap out of that fantasy to remind yourself that you are working and don’t even know his name.
“Hi, sorry,” You cough awkwardly, “Was just focused,” You tell him, approaching the counter. You wipe your sweaty hands on your apron, before putting on your best ‘I’m a friendly bakery worker who just wants to sell you pastries, also tip me please!’ smile on. “What can I get you?” You ask.
“Do you guys have apple turnovers?” It is the first time this fall that is under 65 degrees, so you understand that there is some cravings for autumn snacks.
“Yeah, yeah,” You move towards the case to get some, “Just the one?”
“Three, actually. For the office.” He hums.
“Some big office,” Your voice is a sarcastic mumble, not really for the an to hear but he chuckles at it, and you almost think it’s weird that he an hear you but your brain tells you not to judge, since there is a whole lot the handsome stranger could judge you for.
“We’re a small business. Very friendly, very personable.”
You cannot help yourself, and you find yourself asking, “What sort of business are you in?” What the handsome stranger does not know is that you are insatiably angry at yourself for asking that because you had pretty much promised yourself that you were never going to have any sort of relationship—it wouldn’t be fair to them, it wouldn’t be fair to you. And as previously established, that wasn’t a problem, because you weren’t really attracted to anyone before this handsome stranger waltzed on into the bakery.
“I’m a lawyer.” He smiles. A lawyer.
“Well, Mr. Lawyer, your total is 10.75.” He pulls out a twenty and when you hand him change, he asks, “Which one is the five?” and you wordlessly pull out the five from the stack you handed him, before he puts the rest of the change in his wallet, dropping a five and a small card into your tip jar. “You have a good day now.” He hums, before making his way out of the bakery.
You watch intently, maybe a little too intently, and you hear the voice of your best friend from your teenage years in your head saying, ‘You hate to see him go, but you love to watch him leave.’ And a small smile finds its way to your face.
Then, you notice the card he dropped in the jar before fishing it out. On the front, it reads,
‘Matthew M. Murdock, Attorney at Law.’ On the back, you read,
‘Nelson, Murdock & Page, Attorneys at Law,
Hell’s Kitchen’
Accompanied by this is a phone number and an address.
You pocket the card, and before you know it, costumers are flooding in, and you ease into the day, forgetting about the handsome stranger until you leave the bakery at around six o’clock that night. You finish cleaning up from the day before letting the woman who works to prep for the next day. Then you leave, heading home to the too quiet, too small apartment.
You don’t have much in your apartment. You sleep with a gun under your pillow and you have a cheap TV on your dresser. You spend most of your time catching up on books or movies. You make yourself box mac and cheese before eating it right out of the pot, sitting on your kitchen floor.
As you cook the mac and cheese, you say his name over and over again, letting it sit on your tongue and escape your lips, thinking about him intently. You glance at your watch and decide that maybe it’s early enough that he might still be at his office.
You fish your tiny flip phone out of your pocket, dialing the number on the card and waiting. You’re holding your breath as the phone rings. A thought runs through your brain that maybe he gave you a wrong number and then your brain immediately reminds you that no man is ever going to give you his card, printed out, just to fuck with you.
“Nelson, Murdock & Page, how can I help you?” A voice asks, and you blink, hesitating for a minute.
“Uh, I’m looking for Matthew.” You say, and there’s some light shuffling, and again, this regret shoots over you until you hear a very smooth, very familiar voice,
“Hey,” His voice is like honey and you long to hear it clearer—The first time you’ve desired a better phone. “I was hoping you’d call.”
“Yeah, well, Maybe I just like the sound of your voice.”
“You know usually, that’s my line.”
“Wait, that works on people?” You hear his laugh on the other side of the phone and a shiver runs down your spine as you itch to make him laugh more.
“Telling people they’re beautiful doesn’t hit the same when you’re blind.”
“I guess not..” There’s a silence on his end of the phone, before he says,
“I never got your name.” For a moment, you consider giving him a fake name, but you find yourself giving him your name, the one that your parents gave you all those years ago. It’s foreign on your lips, a rare gem that you do not often give out. He repeats it and you swear you could almost die right then and there. “What are you doing tonight?”
You’re taken back by his forwardness, not anticipating that maybe this handsome stranger, Matthew, wants to be around you just as bad as you want to be around him. And then you look around at your dingy apartment, with your boxy TV, the gun under your pillow, and you, sitting on the floor of your kitchen, having just finished eating box mac and cheese with a wooden spoon that just for a second tastes like the one your mother used to cook with, the one you’d get tastes of sauces, soups, anything you could get your hands on.
And then you remember everything that happened after those days sneaking tastes of your mom’s cooking and you feel guilty for pursuing handsome Matthew, because he has no idea what he is getting into.
“Just finished dinner. Was planning on just relaxing.” Reading until around midnight and then getting an hour or two of sleep.
“Well, how about we go do something?” You detect a bit of hopefulness in his voice. You find yourself asking before you can stop yourself,
“Like, like a date?” And he laughs again.
“Yes, like a date.”
“I don’t know,” You start, “Usually I have to ask my father’s permission before I go out on the town with a boy.” You want to slap your hand over your mouth because you sound your age. Oh god.
“Really?”
“..No.” You hope he finds your weird, totally not a cover up, joke funny. And he laughs again, telling you,
“You’re funny.”
Yeah, really fucking hilarious.
“So, a date?”
“A date.” You consider this for a moment. A date might lead somewhere real. Somewhere dangerous. Somewhere you haven’t been in.. years. Years might be an understatement. Your heart thuds against your chest, and you find yourself full of that nostalgic thing you call desire.
“What would we do?”
“Anything you want.” He tells you.
“Anything? That’s dangerous.” Because this whole thing is dangerous, you want to tell him, maybe you should mention the whole age thing, the whole assassin thing, the whole brainwashing thing, the whole thing.
“Yeah? What dangerous things do you have in mind, doll?” You have to hold the phone away from your ear to breathe, because it feels like someone just took the winds out of your sails. Suddenly it is 1940 something and a boy is flirting with you, and you have to act like a lady in hopes that he will treat you right.
Odd thing to think about today, but you’re an odd person.
“What about ice cream and a bookstore?” You ask, and for a moment you want to hit yourself for not suggesting something cool like a club or something and then you realize that you have no idea what counts as a cool date in this day and age.
Did you know when you were a teenager and had the world at your fingertips, eighty (give or take) years ago?
But to your surprise, handsome Matthew just responds,
“That sounds nice. Do you want me to pick you up at your apartment?”
The idea of handsome Matthew being at your tiny apartment that is not suitable for a date makes your heart race.
“I’ll meet you at the ice cream place in an hour. You know the one near the bakery?”
“Yeah. See you then.”
“Yeah. See you.” And when you hang up, you realize just what has happened. For the first time since 1944, You have landed yourself a date with a handsome man that is genuinely interested in you and in your infinite wisdom decided that ice cream and books were the best way to impress him.. Books.. Blind man.
You lightly bang your head against the counter behind you, muttering to yourself how stupid that was. But you an only dwell on it for a moment before you are standing up and making your way over to your room to get ready.
You’re still in your work uniform. And you look like an idiot. So, you clean yourself up and pull on something presentable, something comfortable. There is no confusion as to the nature of this meet up, you two are going on a date and you asked a blind man to go to a bookstore. You feel like an asshole. And you’re aware that you’re putting emphasis on that, but still!
You go through outfits and outfits, trying to figure out what an appropriate outfit is for this first date. You end up in something casual, and you hope you’re not underdressed. Honestly, you know you’re making a fuss over something as standard as a date, but you are genuinely desperate to have this go well.
You finally decide on an outfit and make your way out the door, grabbing your jacket and stepping out of the apartment. You stop outside of your door before turning around and going back into your room to change your top.
But eventually, you do get to the ice cream place Matt and you had discussed on the phone. And there he is, in all his glory, wearing the same outfit he wore when you saw him in the bakery that morning, only, without his tie, and he looks more disheveled. Somehow it’s more charming to see him like this, more exhilarating to imagine a life with such a low stakes man (You’ll look back on this thought later and laugh)
“Hi,” You greet, and Matt smiles in your direction.
“Hi.” He hums, and again, you feel nervous! So, before he can say much else, you blurt out,
“So, This is my first date in a while.. So. Sorry about that.” You say awkwardly.
“A while?” He asks, tilting his head like a curious dog. You’re struck by the fact that he is around 70 years younger than you. “Like, a few months?”
A beat.
Handsome Matthew is much busier than you are, it seems.
“More like a couple of years.” And by ‘a couple’ you mean eighty some odd years, but Matt doesn’t need to know all of that right now. But he just hums and nods, before answering,
“That’s alright, I’ll be gentle.” Your face flushes, and with a nervous laugh, you ask,
“You mean we’ll take it slow?”
“Sure. Whatever. We’ll figure out the details of it all later.” His hand finds yours, and before you can protest he pulls you into the ice cream shop. Handsome Matthew orders chocolate chip cookie dough because he is perfect in every way, and you order..
“Butter pecan, please.” You get odd glances from Matthew and the seventeen year old minimum wage worker behind the counter, but neither of them say anything. You manage to beat Matthew to paying for the ice cream, and as you walk, he asks,
“Butter pecan? Really?” And you roll your eyes. Young people today, always judging.
“You’re lucky they didn’t have butterscotch, that’s my real favorite.” You respond, before taking a lick of the ice cream. Your handsome date, gives you another bizarre look.
“Okay, what’s your third favorite ice cream flavor?”
“Mm..” You take a few minutes to think about it, before deciding on your answer. “A tie between pistachio and coffee.” And at your answer, Matt laughs at you. You let out an offended gasp, although you’re not being serious, before asking, “what’s so horrible about that?”
“You have the ice cream preferences of an eighty year old,” He laughs and you laugh too, because oh, if only he knew.
“Sorry, my pallet is straight from the 40’s.” It’s a joke. That’s a joke. Not at all based in facts or actuality. You continue working through eating your ice cream and talking to your handsome date. “So, does the handsome lawyer have any family I should know about?”
“You think I’m handsome?” He grins, and your face flushes.
“Answer the question.”
“No siblings. My dad died when I was young and It’s only recently that I’ve been talking to my mother.” Interesting, you think, and then this dawning realization happens where you realize that the next thing out of his mouth will be the inevitable question, “How about your family?”
You consider lying but you decide against it. If this is going to lead anywhere good, you don’t want to base it off lies.
“Not much to say. I’m the sole survivor.” You shrug, keeping it vague. He frowns a bit before squeezing your hand.
“A couple of orphans, huh?”
You squeeze his back.
“Seems like it.”
You kind of aren’t over the death of your parents and your siblings and quite literally everyone you knew as a teenager and young adult—You’re not over so many fucking things that if you went through it all, you’d probably keep poor Handsome Matthew up all night.
But instead of talking about that, Matt finds himself walking with you to the bookstore. You hold the door open for him and begin to wander. You quickly move past the books on World War II, as if faced with an ex you want nothing to do with them.
You begin to look at the romance books, scrunching your nose at how cheesy and surface level so many of these young adult novels are. But then you remind yourself that you are a hundred years old. But you look like you’re in your late twenties, early thirties. As you’re looking at the books, Matthew makes his way to the aisle next to yours, and talks to you through the stacks.
“So, what’s your favorite book?”
“That’s like asking a mother her favorite child.” You answer quickly, and you hear him laugh. Your face flushes.
“Try for me.”
“Uh, I really love Great Gatsby. I’m kind of fascinated with the zombie genre, too, it’s sort of new and interesting, and uh, oh, I read this Neil Gaiman novel, uh, Stardust? I really liked that.” You confess. Matt listens as you fumble through novels, both of you making your way towards the end of the aisle.
“And movies?”
“Why is everything about me? I didn’t hear your favorite novel.”
“The Outsiders.” He responds, and you make a mental note to try and find it in the bookstore. “So, movies?”
You’ve had autonomy for around three years now, so.. Your movie knowledge has been kind of stunted, so you wrack your brain to try and come up with something impressive.
“I really like the Indiana Jones series, uh, oh, The Matrix, and..” You ponder your brain. “Oh! And King Kong!” You saw that one in the theatres for your thirteenth birthday.
“Like, the one that came out in 2017?” He asks, and again, you consider lying, because you actually have seen that one because when you looked up ‘King Kong’ it came out, and it really blew your mind how far CGI had come.
“No, the one that came out in ’33.” As if it is the most normal thing in the entire world.
“One of your favorite movies is one from 1933?” And the old woman in you wants to insist that you loved the decades you grew up in, and that seeing King Kong in the theatres was a marvelous thing because you could barely afford rent. And then you remember you shouldn’t reveal your history with the Great Depression to a man you’re on your first date with.
“Yup.” You assert, and ask, “You?”
“Star Wars, any of them, and the Princess Bride.” Again, you make a note to add it to your list.
“Interesting.” You hum, and you find The Outsiders, wanting to read it, to consume it, to consume him, and every thought he has. The two of you meet at the end of the aisle, too close to be platonic as his hands come to find your arms, and you shudder at the affection.
“Touch starved, huh?” He grins. You flush and roll your eyes.
“You’re so mean.” You huff, and he laughs. His hand moves up your arms and cups your jaw, enjoying the feeling of your warm cheeks.
“Well, you’re odd.”
“Odd?”
“Everything about you. Your movie tastes, your jokes, your ice cream flavors.” He hums, with a soft shrug. “It’s not a bad thing, I’m just.. Trying to figure you out.”
“You’d be the first to accomplish such a feat.”
He laughs at that, and he’s so beautiful.. That you cannot help yourself when you lean up and gently press a soft kiss to those beautiful pretty pink lips that had caught your attention that morning. He kisses you back, without hesitation.
You feel at peace for the first time in years, as if everything you had gone through, every moment of torture and pain, has been worth it because it leads you to this. To Handsome Matthew, who kisses you so tenderly that no matter how simple it is, you are left breathless and desperate for more. You lean into him, deepening the kiss, pushing him back a bit, his back pressed against the stacks. The book in your hands is crumpled, and eventually, Matthew pulls away, before pushing you back a bit.
“Easy,” He says breathlessly, and you need the reminder, because you try to catch your breath. Holy shit. “Easy, easy..” he repeats, his hands rubbing up and down your arms a bit. “I’ve got you, just breath.” He laughs, and you lean your forehead against your shoulder. Fuck.
“When can I see you again?” Is your only thought, and he chuckles gently.
“Whenever you want.” He promises, and you nod, before leaning up to kiss him again.
One day you’ll tell him everything. You’ll tell him all of the horrible things you’ve done and have had done to you, and you’ll tell him why the nightmares came, and why they won’t ever go away. One day, you’ll tell handsome Matthew why you sleep with a gun under your pillow and why you have no family and why you are so odd.
For now, you decide that you deserve a few nice things.
And when he kisses back, you realize that maybe he is just as infatuated with you as you are with him. Maybe. Maybe he is full of secrets and his own horrors that plague him while he sleeps, and maybe that’s the unspoken reason you are so deeply fascinated with one another.
Maybe.
Maybe you’ve spent the past ninety years going from fight to fight, to nightmare to nightmare. Maybe you’re owed some time in the sun with Handsome Matthew.
You plan on frying the chicken. You have fried other things before but never this big so this will be a new experience. You have a pack of A&W Root beer which comes in glass bottles which are pretty heavy. The third bag snacks you decided to by yourself as well as Oreos which you plan to fry when your dad gets home. He says he likes the sound of the oil popping and cracking as well has the smell of fried Oreos. You shut the door with your foot and back as you walk into the kitchen and lift them up to put them on the counter. You wipe your forehead and get out your phone and call your dad who is under the contact name 'Daddio'. After two rings he picks up. "Hey sweetpea! You get home safe?" Matt asks in which you respond with. "Of course dad. I never get into any trouble so keep those gray hairs off your head" Your dad laughs. "Alright then I-" He cuts himself off with a sigh. "Duty calls I have a client in the next room that I need to talk to. See you tonight alright?" Matt asks "Yeah dad I will see you tonight! I'm going to go ahead and start dinner." You say smiling. "Alright (Y/N) I love you." He says and as he exits the call you respond with an 'I love you too.'
Chicken Parmesan is harder than it looks but you would like to say that you were successful. You set two plates on the table full of the food you just made and by the time you had finished cleaning it was 7:46 PM and the sun was already going down. You were still in your dress from earlier today and haven't bothered to change because you prefer to have everything done including dinner once you have finished eating. An hour goes by and it is now 8:48 PM and you have more then just a disappointed look on your face and you decide to eat the now cold dinner that is sitting in front of you. 'Maybe he is still busy at work' You think to yourself giving him the benefit of the doubt. You get out some tuple ware to put the food in so you can walk down to give it to him. You also decided to carry two glass bottles of root beer that you both had in the fridge because you don't want to get caught by a police officer carrying beer or whatever alcoholic beverage you have in the fridge. You also brought two because you were hopping you could sit down with him as he ate at work. You put both plates in the sink once you were done eating and putting the food away. You grab a bag of yours and put the two drinks and the food you packed for your dad and then grabbed your phone and held onto it as you exit the the apartment and turn off the light. You lock the door behind you as you make your journey to the road.
Your dad would be really upset with you right now if he knew that you were out walking this late at night but its whatever. His law firm is only a few blocks away. Matt has always taught you to be cautious and aware of your surroundings which is why you keep looking back and walking as fast as you can. There are some unsavory characters out on the street corners calling out to you but you ignore them and walk faster if that is even possible. What you do know is that the flats you are wearing are rubbing against your ankles and you are definitely going to have blisters. There is sweat going down your forehead despite how cool it is in this fall weather. Once you get close to your destination you slow down to a reasonable pace and calm your breathing. You go to try for the door but for some reason it is locked. I guess that's understandable its late so you step back to look at the windows to see if any of the lights are on in which there isn't and you sigh once again. In hope you go to try the door again when you receive a text from your Uncle Foggy saying: 'Hey squirt I wanted to let you know that Your dad, Karen, and I went out to Josie's and he wants you to hold down the fort until he gets back. So stay safe! Call if anything happens. One of us will pick up. Hope to see you soon Squirt!' This makes you angry. 'Of course he forgot about dinner he always does!' You think to yourself as you just leave Foggy on read instead of answering. You start storming back home when you stop at a garbage can next to an alleyway. It gave you creepy vibes but you didn't care. You ripped open your bag pulling out the Chicken Parmesan ready to throw it in the trash but you pause. You sigh " Dang it..." You mumble. ' I can't blame him for going out with his friends... Maybe they won a case or something and wanted to celebrate...' You let out a groan and shove it back into your backpack. 'He probably will be hungry when he gets home and hopefully I will get back before he does.' You put your bag down and slide your flats off your feet and pick up both your bag and your shoes.
As you begin to stand up straight someone grabs your (H/L) hair by the roots which makes you cry out in pain as they drag you forward and push you to the ground making you fall to your knees. You slip your hand into your bag as they approach you from behind. You grip the top of the glass bottle as they yank you by the back of your dress to stand you up. You whirl around and hit one of them on the side of the head shattering the bottle " You bitch!" the man yells out in which you realize he isn't alone. Another man comes up from behind him and lands a punch right to your temple which knocks you down to the ground as you let out another cry as your head smacks the ground. Surprisingly you are still conscious and look up at the two men who is now joined by a third. The first man that you hit with the bottle grips your hair yanking your head up as your hands go up to grasp his hands hoping for him to ease his grip and to let you go. "P-Please all I have is a phone and food." You say letting out a sob. "Shut up!" He says yanking you back then to him again " You are Murdocks kid right?" The third man asks but it sounds more like a statement.
You stay silent as he then punches you in the diaphragm making you lose your breath and vomit your dinner on to the first mans shoes. In which the man yanks you higher into the air before slamming you down on to the ground and you let out another cry of pain. "Answer us kid! Are you Murdocks kid or not?!" The third man asks. You are to busy catching your breath to answer only to lose your breath again as he kicks you in the stomach. The first man sighs and starts speaking in another language as you try to pinpoint what it is. The second man picks up your phone that you must have dropped and turns it on. "It's his kid." He says as he shows your lock screen picture of you and your dad together. The third man smashes the phone on the ground and steps on it. After catching your breath the second time. You get up to your knees and yell as loud as you can. "HEL-" You get cut off by a kick to the stomach once again but this time you feel the bones shift inside of you. It doesn't feel broken but it hurts like hell. Suddenly your face is met with a kick to the face knocking you down. you taste blood in your mouth and your lips feel swollen. You must have a split lip now. The man with the vomit boots places a hard booted foot on the back of your head as he shoves your face in the dirty concrete of the alley way.
"Tie her up!" He orders the other two. You began kicking and moving your arms You hit one of them men with your foot in the shin making him grunt in pain as he straddles both your legs to hold them down while the other one grips both your arms painfully to twist them into place to tie you up. Both your arms are overlapping each other as they tie up your forearm instead of just your wrists which makes your shoulder blades push into a very uncomfortable position to where they are almost touching each other. You let out another yell to where the man holding your head down with his vomit shoes pushes down harder and moves his heel back and forth as if he is putting out a cigarette with his shoe. You forehead and nose are scraping against the concrete floor you are pretty sure that your face is bleeding more now. "Why didn't Murdock take the case?!" Vomit shoes asks as he lifts up his shoe and nudges your head to the side. "What... What case?" you whimper out. This has never happened before and you have never felt this much pain in your life. You have never felt this scared... "His recent client! Why didn't he take the case?!" He asks again. You keep trying to kick with the man on your legs and he starts punching them and you let out a cry. "I don't know! I don't know!" You cry out and he stomps on the side of your face and he does the movement again causing the right side of your face to scrape against the ground again. " P-Please stop please!" You have tears running down your face and over your nose and the salt from your tears sting as you cry. "Pick her up." Vomit shoes says and the man that tied you up picks you up by your elbows pulling you up from the floor. If you could look at yourself you would be disgusted. Your nose and forehead are bleeding which is running over your eyebrows and into your eyes making the men look like a blurry red mess your lip and mouth are bleeding as it pours out of your mouth making some of your teeth turn to a pink and almost deep red.
"Turn the video on. We might need to convince 'Nelson and Murdock' To help us since this little asshole isn't helping." The man who was sitting on your legs starts the video giving the other man a thumbs up that it started. "Mr. Murdock, Mr. Nelson..." He begins as he pushes you into frame. The other man digs into the bag they carried here and pulls out a rope and tosses it over the railing of an escape well. " We are really upset and inconvenienced that you didn't take our friends case... and I know you know who we are talking about!" He lets out a grunt as he kicks you straight in the chest making you fall on your back so hard that you rolled over your shoulders and onto your stomach You try to get on your knees by using your head and shoulders only to have your hair yanked back "No no no no please" you sob as a rope is tied around your neck and the man pulls the rope lifting you into the air. You are gasping and flailing around. "Look at the camera Sweetpea!" Vomit shoes says with a smirk. "I hope you reconsider this case and call us back... We will be waiting" The video ends and yet you are still hanging there.
Your face is red almost a purple color and veins are bulging out of your head. You feel like you are going to explode. The rope continues to dig into your neck as the man with the rope ties it to a near by pipe. You are still kicking and your vision is getting spotty until a sound of a gunshot echoes in the alleyway the man who tied the rope is now dead with a bullet hole in his head. A man with a bulletproof vest with a skull painted on it enters the Alleyway. " Oh shit.. Oh shit!!" The man with the phone has just sent the video and drops the phone and begins to run only to be shot down by one in the back of the leg and then one in the head. Vomit shoes begins to back away slowly " Calm down Punisher calm down!" He bumps into you taking out a knife. You see an opportunity and quickly wrap your legs around his neck and he begins to choke and you get a little bit of breath in your burning lungs. The man stabs your legs which causes you to let a brief yelp and you let go and a bullet zooms into the mans head and he drops dead. You are stuck spinning in circles choking and gasping for air.
"Hold on kid" He says taking out a knife and cutting you down. You fall flat on your face turning your head to the side as you see the mans boots walk up. You try to get your good leg underneath you but it only moves you forward like a caterpillar as you are taking in breath as well as inhaling dirt the man crouches down removes the rope from your neck and unties you but your arms just fall by your sides and all you are doing is focusing on breathing. The man you now know as 'The Punisher' turns you over and picks you up from under your knees and shoulders carrying you bridal style. Your head lulls back and your arm falls lip hanging off of you. He readjusts to where your head is now tucked in his chest. Your vision is hazing and all you can really see is white and black of his vest as well as looking behind him at the now three dead men on the floor as well as your stuff scattered all around. "Hang on kid you got to stay awake." Is what you hear in your haze as your eyes open and close for long periods of time. You finally let your eyes rest as you come up to the entrance of an apartment complex.
Summary - When Loki's time on Earth is interrupted by a sudden voice in his head, everyone around him are suddenly suspicious. In order to determine that he is not a danger to those around him with his constant talking to himself they send him to a secluded location in a disguise. What happens when he meets a young woman who is also a magical practitioner and has been speaking to Loki all along.
Warnings: Torture, Major Character Death, and ALOT of Angst
Loki is speeding through corridors, checking every door he comes across, euthanizing enemies if he has to. He comes to a hallway that has what seems like a thousand doors lining it. He begins checking each one with stealth seeing that they all are mainly empty. He comes to a door and opens it and he recognizes it as the room he first seen on the cameras. He looks around and sees the TV. He goes up to it and presses the power button. Clips of him of what he did in New York play and his heart shatter. You know what he has done now and he feels hopeless because he knows you could never love him now.
He looks to the side of it and sees the binder and opens it. There are logs of what he has been doing the past few weeks which are uncomfortably accurate as well as photographs with the both of you together. He continues his search and finds your journal. He flips through it and sees that there was a new section from when he looked at it last. It describes him as 'Thomas' and your time with him. He takes the book and puts it in the pocket of the robes he is currently wearing and looks toward the chair to see locks of hair on the ground from where you have been shaved. He lets out a shakey sigh. 'She is still alive' He thinks to himself when he is interrupted by a voice.
"Hey! Madam said no one was allowed in here until she is finished with the ceremony!" The man storms up to him and grabs him by the arm. Loki is shocked at first but tries to play it cool. "My apologies I was just retrieving the binder to archive it..." Loki says confidently. "If you don't mind me asking... I guess if you weren't aware I am new..." He says pulling away from the other persons grip. "What is the ceremony?" The person looks at him confused when a second white figure enters the room. "There was a breach at the South si..." The second figure pauses. "Hey!" they charge at Loki and Loki conjures up a dagger slitting the person in front of hims throat before stabbing him in the chest. He shoves the body into the second person making him stumble giving Loki the opportunity to get behind him and hold the dagger to his neck. "Now you tell me what this ceremony is and I won't paint the walls with your blood." Loki hisses. The person is shaking in his grasp. "T-The ceremony is to worship the Gods! W-We are creating a divine being to sacrifice! The God Loki will be pleased as madam said!" The person calls out. "Tell me more! What is this ritual? Why the sacrifice?" Loki hisses pressing the blade further into his neck. "W-With the help of the sacrificed they will rise again! They will rule beside the God Loki!." The person whimpers. "How are they making the divined? How does it end?" Lokis grip tightens around the person making them yelp. "N-No one as come back from the ritual yet! They have all died, b-but this girl seems promising!" "I understand that now tell me! How does it end!" Loki yells making the person turn away from his loud shouting. "After the brands have been laid a-and the carvings have been put in place... They will kill her!" Loki presses the blade against them just drawing blood. "Three circles are carved on her back and in the center a daggers that have been blessed by the Gods will pierce her in those places along her back!" Loki's chest is heaving as he takes in the information. "How do you know if she will live?" Loki asks. "Y-You don't. We don't know what happens afterwards because it has never been done before!" Loki stays still for a moment as the person pleads "Now ple-" Loki slits their throat and drops them as they choke on their own blood.
Loki exits the room and continues down the hallway until an ungodly screech reaches his ears. He takes off running towards the end of the hall and burst down the door. "(Y/N)!" He shouts as he breaks the door just in time to hear another. He looks around the room to see the figures on the ground surrounding you with two daggers sticking out of your back. The figures turn and the bald lady takes ahold of the last dagger. "Stop him!" She shouts and they get up and charge at him. Loki throws his dagger into the head of the one closest to him then conjures a second one and executes the second person in line. "Finish the ceremony madam!" The last person shouts. He sees you reach a hand toward him "Thom-" your voice lets out a loud hellish scream that cuts out at some points because of the pain. He sees your back arch with your head lifting to the sky as the bald lady twists it deeper. Loki felt like your screams were never going to end. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as he killed the final figure and turning his head at your voice. "NO!" Loki races over to you dropping onto his knees. Your screams ceased your eyes still open. He was sure if he looked hard enough he would see the last thing you saw and that would be him not being able to save you. The bald lady seeming to be in a state of psychosis at this point is laughing. "It worked!" She cried "It wor-" She is cut off by Loki's death grip around her throat. She grasps his wrists clawing at them. He stands up and at his tall stature her feet are off the ground by a good six inches. "T-This was for you my lord." She wheezes out. Loki's grip tightens to the point they both know it would snap if she tried to move.
"She will come back!" She gasps. "How can you be sure!" Loki yells conjuring up what could be the 50th dagger of the day. "I'm not." She lets out a pitiful laugh. Loki plunges the dagger into her bellow her ribs. She lets out a howl but continues to smile any way. "When she awakes she will know not of her power!" She gasps blood beginning to pour from her mouth. "There are more of us-" Loki twists it more causing her to cry out. The door behind him burst open and the sound of the Captain rings in his ears. "Put her down Loki!" The captain begins to make his way to him from behind. "I'm sorry if I broke your heart my Lord." She seems to be running out of breath. "She was a fighter and if she doesn't awake she would have been a useless experiment." Loki shouts in anger ripping the dagger from her before plunging it in again then ripping it out and throwing her across the room. Loki storms up to her crumpled form as she gathers breath. "It would be an honor to die by your ha-" She is cut off by the dagger plowing its way into her chest over and over and over again. Crying with each thrust of the blade. The shouts from behind him plead for him to stop. He is only brought out of his rage when Thor's big form wraps himself around him. "Brother PLEASE!" Thor shouts. Loki looks at the mess he has made. Blood pools around the mutilated corpse with that damn smile on her face. Loki looks down at his hands which are colored crimson he feels droplets of sweat roll down his face. Loki forgot how to breath.
"We need medical in here now!" The captain shouts into comms. This brings Loki's attention back to you. He escapes his brothers grasp kneeling next to you again. He goes to touch you before looking at his hands and wiping them on his pants. Blood smearing across his hands he picks you up in a way that you are facing him but the daggers to not touch the ground. "My Dove?" He looks for any sign of life bringing his head to your chest to listen to your heart beat which causes your head to lull back. There is no heart beat. "No, no, no!" Loki cries out tears now streaming down his face. "Please Darling please!" As he looks over you he can still see where you were bleeding from all the carvings. He cups your cheek caressing the apple of your cheek with his thumb. Blood from his hands smear on your your cold face. Thor kneels opposite of him and places a hand on Loki's shoulder. Loki pushes it away. "Don't touch me!" He hisses before putting the hand back on your cheek. "Brother they have to take he-" "No!" Loki shouts gripping your body tighter. "Loki we hav-" "NO she will come back to me!" Suddenly pairs of hands find themselves wrapping around Loki. "NO!" He cries as your body is ripped away from him. "NO, Not my Dove let me go!" He goes to conjure something when a pair of power canceling handcuffs are placed on his wrists. "Brother give her back!" He sobs. He sounds utterly heart broken. The team has never seen him this distraught as they try to hold him down and keep him from fighting back. "N-No please give her to me!" He calls out as Thor carries her out. "THOR!" He cries. "PLEASE!" After a few seconds they begin to drag him out of the building. "(Y/N)! Where are you my Dove!" He calls out as soon as they are out of the base just in time to see you being airlifted out of the area. "NO! Plea-" Suddenly it all goes black.
Warnings: Torture and Nonconsensual Drug Use
You wake up screaming to a piercing feeling in your skin. You see above you the bald lady holding a dagger covered in a weird liquid as well as your blood. "Stop! Please!" You cry out as they continue to carve all sorts of shapes into you going down your chest to your stomach. One of the people in the room handed her another dagger with a glowing, hot, red blade. They moves on to your forearms. As they carve the heat from the blade is cauterizing the wound. On your other forearm you see that you have an IV drip, which is dripping the same strange liquid.
"What is this! Please just stop!" You sob out trying to squirm away from her. She lets out an annoyed sigh and whistles again. Someone from behind you grips your head and yanks it to the side before stabbing a needle into your neck. You feel the liquid, drug, or what ever it is enter your system and suddenly you are relaxed. You feel to weak to move or speak yet you can still feel all the pain she is inflicting on you. Every time she placed the blade on your skin you let out whimpers. "Now that you are relaxed I guess I can explain why as you keep asking." The bald lady says smoothly looking back up at the camera before nodding her head toward it and the cameras cut off. She turns back to you and continues her work. "We use to be a group of researchers for Hydra, but I realized our potential." She says as the blade gets switched out again. "So this..." She points to the liquid in your IV drip and says "... is a form of Super Soldier Serum. Those syringes have different strands of DNA from enhanced beings." She says and moves over to your other forearm. The assistants removed the drip and moved it to your other arm. Whimpers leave you mouth once again as she seems more enthusiastic as she talks.
"The reason we chose you is because you seemed to be well versed in the divine arts... And the fact that you have the favor of the God Loki." She says as she is now half way down, the blade is now to cool to cauterize the wound but she doesn't seem to care. "So anyway. We left Hydra and expanded our efforts. We have many others around the world now." She says as more blood spills small drops falling to the cold concrete ground. "We renamed ourselves 'The Purity' because that is what we are and what we are doing..." She says finally finished with your arm. "Your love for Loki and his love for you are strong, but you are not pure... at least not yet." She says and snaps her fingers and they undo your feet and wrists. You are tuned on your side in the chair uncomfortably and they begin to carve from your hips down your legs. "No one has survived this process just yet... But we have perfected our methods and our serums." She says putting more pressure on the word perfected. "And you are the perfect specimen. Quite beautiful as well. When Hydra gets wind of the being we have created they will come for you." She says a smile growing on her face. "They will come and we will gladly give you to them. Well after we are done with you of course." She says carving especially hard on your ankle before the assistants turn you on your other side. You let out a cry as the rough leather of the chair dig against your fresh wounds. By this time they have put you on another IV bag and you are beginning to move around a bit. "You have power over a God. With you by our side we will finally be ruled properly..." She leans in then whispers in your ear. "... That is what your friends think anyway." She says then goes back to the carving on your calf. At this point you begin to try and sit up and roll off the chair. The IV rips out of your arm as you do this and you try to crawl toward the door. "Tsk, Tsk, Tsk... My little (Y/N)... Must need patience little one." She says and whistles before the others place you facing parallel to the door your head turned to it. You are on your stomach and you are breathing heavily. You feel the prick of a needle enter your neck once again but this time you are now barely conscious.
"Guys... The camera just cut off!" Bruce says into the head set he was wearing to communicate with everyone. "What do you mean they got cut off?!" Tony shouts back. "Exactly as it sounds Tony. That just means we need to cut our time in half." Steve says into the comms. All the groups that are traveling by foot seem to pick up the pace, especially Loki and Wanda. "So, how did you both meet?" Wanda asks trying to make small talk. Loki glances her way seeming reluctant but decides to answer. "She just appeared on my doorstep the day after the team left. She brought food. It tasted good." He says being short with her. They go for a few more minutes in silence before she asks another question. "So despite what the description of the letter said. What does she look like?" Loki is silent again then answers. "She... She has smooth (S/C) skin, very soft to the touch. Her hair is (H/L) and (Hair Texture) that is very soft..." He steps over a log and helps Wanda over it as they continue. "...Her eyes aren't just (E/C) they are soft and hold genuine love and care behind them..." Loki gets this far away look. He speeds up moving ahead of Wanda "...I am lucky if she ever looks at me that way." Suddenly the comms chime in. It is Vision from above saying. "Wanda, Loki I am getting multiple heat signatures from up and to the left of you. The base is just past them." Loki conjures up his twin daggers and Wanda's hands glow red with anticipation. Being light on their feet they head in the direction of where Vision said they were. Steve then chimes in. "You need to wait so we can take them out at the same time." "We don't have time I need to get in there." Loki whispers back to him. "Loki this is an order stay put!" Steve hisses.
Loki peeks over the bush to see white figures patrolling and armed. Wanda places a hand on his shoulder. "Lets do this." She whispers to him. He nods but holds up a hand. "Wait." He says and puts an illusion around both of them. They are wearing the exact clothing of the guard, well only of what they could see at least. They just have to hope that this disguise works. "Keep a level head." Loki says but seemingly more to himself then Wanda. They exit the bushes and the three guard pause. "We have come to relieve you." Loki says calmly and he sees the three tense up. They whistle at each other then turn to whistle to them. Wanda and Loki freeze and the guards taking that as an answer they attack them. Loki drops the illusion and the three seem stunned. Wanda takes the chance to use her power to pick up one and throw him into the others. "Get inside Loki! I can take care of this!" Loki hesitates for a moment. "Thank you witch." He says before running in putting up the illusion once again.
