It was the first time Wanda had been alone with him since Sokovia. In all likelihood, it was probably the first time she’d been alone with anyone. She had exactly sought out anyone’s company. If it was up to her, she would curl up in a ball in her bed and never leave.
If it was up to her, she would have died in Sokovia with her brother.
But, Wanda hadn’t died. Vision hadn’t let her die like he was supposed to. And, now, here they were. She had ventured out of her room in search of food. It was late enough that she hadn’t expected anyone to be in the kitchen. But there he was.
For a moment, Wanda considered just turning and running away. But she supposed she couldn’t hide from him forever. There was only so long they could avoid each other, even in a building as big as this. And it wasn’t like either of them had anywhere else to go. Besides, she had so many questions, and she didn’t think anyone else had answers for her.
So she steeled her nerves and took another small step towards him. Her fingers fidgeted nervously with the sleeves of her sweatshirt. “I...” her voice sounded so small and lost, even to her own ears. “Can I ask you... why? You saved me, I mean...” It was better to just jump into it, wasn’t it?
