I'm a little surprised that Crowley can come off as "too nice" to some people. He's always using his humor and charm to hide some ulterior motive of his, and even in season nine - when he was arguably at his most vulnerable - he kept the demon-Cain thing from Dean in the hopes that the rumors would turn out to be true. Anyone who paints him or any other demon as funny and harmless isn't seeing the wool being pulled over their eyes. It's what I love about his character.

Well, but Crowley is a bit different. I mean, he's a demon, yeah, which means he's not exactly a saint, but he's somewhat nicer than other demons. Like, most of them don't give a shit. They lie, they fuck shit up, they do whatever they want. Crowley even says he never lied.

Though, I do think the reason he helps has less to do with the brothers and more to do with helping himself. He is the King of Hell, after all, and I think getting on the brothers' good side ensures his survival.
