Saw the Toucan Sam redesign and wanted to sketch my own rough take. I love redesigning legacy mascots 💕 I think it’s a serious job that should take various things into account, starting with understanding & respecting the choices that made the original iconic, and thinking of the medium where your character will mostly appear; not to mention to also think of marketing and graphic design 🤷♀️ It’s a whole different mindset than just creating something for animation. The new redesign looks like a good job by a student but a lacking job by a professional. It has too many trendy things that don’t seem to connect to a purpose or function. I just wanted to try making a happy medium, mixing trendy & classic elements.
