headcanon that lumine got so used to having aether with her all the time that when they got separated and she woke up in teyvat that numbness of an empty place beside her made her go crazy. she couldn’t sleep or eat or even walk around without this consuming feeling of anxiety growing inside her stomach and making her scared, so she develops a tendency to latch onto people at all times so she’s never alone + never feels like that again
bennett (her first adventure partner) is in for a surprise when they set up camp on their first night out together and he’s dozing off in his sleeping bag when he feels lumine nudge the covers and slip in next to him, he’s too stunned to do anything besides go “uh um i uh well uh well i uh so uh um” and lumi just wraps her arms around him and he’s red in the face and its definitely Not helping the blooming crush he has on her
when he wakes up the next morning she’s already up and making breakfast like nothing happened, that night when they go back to sleep she crawls into his sleeping bag again and this time he’s not caught off guard, it gets to be less and less awkward the more it happens and every time the sun starts to set bennett’s hands twitch because he knows it’s coming up, until it becomes so routine that he opens up the sleeping bag to her and waits for her to crawl in each night
(okay but imagine pining bennett slowly falling in love with lumine and having to endure that)
ALSO comes moments of separation anxiety in which bennett/other adventure team members will leave for a sec and she’ll grab onto their hand w big eyes like “where are you going?” and they have to be like i’ll be right back, i’ll be right back
flash forward when xiao, kazuha, etc. join the team and witness lumine climbing into bennett’s sleeping bag at night like 0.0 and bennett and lumine just. [whistling as if nothing is unusual]
