We Have All Been Touched By Mental Health
We have all been touched by mental heal in the pandemic, and many of us are still having to deal with mental health issues. Governments ignoring the pandemic, resulting in them interfering with your mental health doesn’t help, and the issues exacerbate. We should all be concerned that governments are ignoring the science.
Social media heard today from someone who was heading to hospital, having tried to take his own life. Feeling ashamed, he wanted people to know how he felt and I get him. He has nothing to be ashamed of. Politicians on the other hand, have every reason to feel ashamed, but they aren’t.
I have autism and I struggle with mental health. I also write about mental health issues on my blog, the very issues that affect us all. I choose every day not to live in denial that I have mental health issues. Social media has become a platform for many of us who talk about issues, with undercurrents that are very much mental health related, they just don’t give it a name.
It is easy to see how many people are struggling, but we shouldn’t live in denial and no one is free of mental health issues, or feeling out of their depth. Things happen, and sometimes those things are out of our control. It is important to think about how you feel, and to acknowledge the state of your mental health.
When I was growing up, mental health wasn’t a thing because no one talked about it, but it was still there and if you struggled, you struggled alone and in silence, and although in 2022, mental health is out in the open, politics and society don’t mix well, and those with a predisposition to mental health issues, fare worse than those who generally do okay with their mental health, but may have felt out of their depth in the pandemic.
But not talking about how you feel, doesn’t mean your struggles aren’t there. Politics around the world and in the pandemic is having an impact on people’s mental health. To acknowledge that is a start.
Social media has become a sounding board for mental health. You can hear the desperation as others struggle to comprehend. I struggle to comprehend also.
