I get into football every four years just for the drama of the world cup lmao any suggestions as to where I should start this year?
if drama is what you're after then i have great news
we're still three months out and this wc is already messy. in addition to the (very valid) protests and boycotts over qatar hosting, all the domestic leagues have condensed their schedules to accommodate a winter wc, which is going to result in a lot of exhausted and injured players, and probably some very unpredictable fixtures. as a football fan? i'm horrified. as a lesbian? horrified. as a lover of football drama? i'm a little excited.
right now the best place to start watching would be club football. if there's a player you remember liking from wc18, figure out what club they play for and tune in. or pick a league and watch the weekend matches (english premier league has been silly lately, italian serie a is always wild). or just watch whatever is available on the streaming service of your choice lol. maybe you'll find some favorite little guys and can root for them and their countries.
if you don't want to bother with club football (fair), then it's just a matter of waiting for november to roll around and see who shows up. the qualifying rounds are over and the 32 teams have already been sorted into their groups.
unfortunately (for me) we lost some very sexy soldiers during the qualifiers (rip colombia, italy), so the choices do leave a little to be desired. but still, it's always fun to just pick a team or two from every group and cheer them on. if you're asking me for recommendations, i'm partial to senegal, denmark, croatia, and brazil this go-around.
in the end watching football is really just a game of hot or not, so see who you vibe with and which poor little meow meows speak to your heart, and you'll be set. the first matches kick off on november 20!!!! i will be here and girlblogging about it all!!!!!!
