I really have a hard time working with this as a ship, frankly. But part of that is my own bias against threesomes of any kind; I have a hard time envisioning a functional threesome that does not result in at least one party feeling left out.

Not to mention the characters themselves would be hard to really... combine into a relationship like this. Ryou is a lonely, kind-hearted, devoted kind of person. 'Yami Bakura' is a cunning, manipulative, patient being. Thief King Bakura is an aggressive, confident, fuck-the-rules type. None of those really mesh together too well.

If anything, I can see Ryou getting caught up in a bad way between the other two. It wouldn't be healthy. As we see in the series itself, Ryou is entirely used by the spirit of the Ring, as is the Thief King, to an extent. I am sure there would be some kind of alpha-dog cockfight going on between the Thief King and the spirit of the Ring, a kind of clashing of wills that Ryou would end up tossed into the middle of.

Not that Ryou isn't strong in his own right. But his strength is much more quiet than the other two's, and would likely be 'unheard' in the midst of all that was going on.

The spirit of the Ring obviously enjoys keeping things under his control. Even if they do not appear to be from the outside, he often has a way of manipulating things to go his way from the shadows. Thief King Bakura does not appreciate another person's dominance being forced on him, something that I am sure stemmed from his hatred for the Pharaoh and those around him. So that creates a power conflict that neither would be willing to compromise on.

And truthfully I have no idea how Ryou would really feel about either of them in this situation. This is where my 'left out' issues comes into play; the spirit and the Thief King are so preoccupied with each other that they would likely pay little attention to Ryou himself. The spirit of the Ring might use Ryou as some kind of leverage; as I said, he is manipulative and knows how to use the tools around him, Ryou being one of them.

For the record, I have no idea where this relationship would take place, given that two share the same body and one is long dead. Not that things like that matter to the fans (myself included), but I thought it worth mentioning.

Overall, I feel like the Thief King and the spirit of the Ring are both too 'alpha' to find a way to compromise with each other about anything, leaving a lot of fighting or more subtle ways of making a point, and Ryou would either be caught in the middle, or essentially forgotten.
