I genuinely really like the way Niles is written. Especially his love for the commander. It's not explicitly romantic, it's just love. Real love. Care. A desire to see someone thrive. To be by their side through the best and worst life has in store for you. Because you'll be ok as long as you have eachother.
You can definitely interpret this as romantic, but its also the kind of love you get from a best friend or a close family member. Anyone who cares deeply for you.
It is love in its purest form.
Now, I'm no longer religious myself but I grew up Christian, and the way Niles loves reminds me of this Bible verse:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Niles love for his Commander is literally almost biblical and I think it's beautiful and poetic.
i love Niles so much 😭
