Sherlock enjoys the symmetry of the kurbits pattern and finds staring at it endlessly intriguing. And well, if said pattern just so happens to be on a towel covering John’s arse that is currently well in Sherlock’s line of sight from behind his microscope – he’s certainly not going to complain.

First instalment of my towel!john and sheet!lock saga. For the amazing sincerely-chaos, who seems to have an inexhaustible supply of ideas for different kinds of towels. You’re welcome; a kurbits pattern!
Hide-and-find!! I just realised one more pattern I think that towel!John might just need very much (if you don't find it too cracky!); tuna pattern...! Sherlock, not knowing about tunalock, would not understand the whole thing at all and spend a whole lot of time trying to figure out the meaning of John's new post-shower gear... *sparkling eyes*
(A little rant about Tumblr and its “technical troubles” whenever I try to answer things privately: >:/ Because some towel!john spoilers around here, look away!)
Then, to the actual answer. Is there such a thing that’s too cracky? I will include a tuna pattern on my list! There’s also another cracky pattern that might confuse Sherlock quite a bit, but well, I like to keep some things secret for now at least ;)

Oh my dear; towel!John is really an intriguing persona. And the thought of Sherlock finding out about that part of John's personality is nothing but inspiring! And after finding these things out, there might be a progress in their relationship...
...leading to more reasons to shower often and for wearing only a sheet. And when understanding that John's now comfortable in his rainbow towel, Sherlock relaxes and begins to wear his own sheets more often. After all it's only practical; clothes...
...are only in the way for some of the more frequent activities now taking place in 221B. I adore your plot behind this. Towel!John should really have his own little stories. Burrito!lock is always to be encouraged, and stories about these two...
...are precious things! :) Glad to hear about your birthday, even if there was a very sad lack of towel wearing doctors and burrito shaped detectives! We'll have to fix that in retrospect ;)
Yes, a bit of plot might have happened by accident. Now I just need to decide in which order to present the towel patterns to the public. I have some idea already on the towel situation that might lead to them getting their shit together: It involves, in broad terms, boldness, embarrassment, and resulting awkwardness. Also have an idea for the kurbits pattern situation -- it might well happen first. I love how this is mostly cracky but it might hold some seriousness as well if you really squint. Like REALLY squint.
As a little extra thing: How do we feel about towel!john in just a tea towel? ;) (This is mostly a rhetorical question. After they’re together for Sherlock’s amusement, or before because John had made a miscalculation and everything else was in the wash...) Hmmm

Oh my dear; yes! I think you're absolutely right; John would experiment and vary his after-shower gear, no question! And yes; patterns are my thing, very much so! If you want to go with the Swedish theme I could really see John in kurbits pattern!
I happen to adore kurbits (have it tattooed on my arm even!). But I see some other eye catching options too; the classical wallpaper (John wears that whenever he's away from Baker Street and miss home (and Holmes!).
He probably owns one with bees on as well, but that might sting a bit... but what wouldn't John do for Sherlock Holmes? There might be one with the rainbow flag as well; it was symbolic - he got that towel after coming out as bi!
John probably has a very varied collection of post-shower wear (and sometimes Sherlock tries to at least colour coordinate his sheet with them), but these are a few of my personal favorites! Feel free to do any towel!John you like; he's precious! :)
AND; Happy Birthday to YOU!!! *throws heaps of curly headed detectives, sheets and tea drinking ex-soldiers on you to celebrate* I wish you a day of sheet wearing freedom and awesome art; and lots of love and inspiration!
Thank you for this heap of ideas, and for the birthday wishes! (I had a good day yesterday, even if it didn’t involve the sheet wearing freedom or detectives and their bloggers. But cake was nice.)
The idea of a towel with the wall paper pattern had crossed my mind already (thank you for giving him a reason to wear it though!) but the rest of the ideas I hadn’t thought about. Bees -- definitely; the rainbow flag (or maybe the bi one) -- YES; and after googling some kurbits patterns I can say that I feel like they would suit towel!john splendidly! I also like the idea of the colour coordinated sheet (just thinking of sheet!lock in a pink sheet burrito while towel!john is wrapped in his bi-flag towel...) -- sheet!lock would undoubtedly start to do that when he gets over the initial shock of seeing john be so adventurous with his after-shower gear.
Towel!john, yes: I have to say that I’m rather fond of him already.
