It was a bit of a hard month. School is in full swing and it is kicking my ass. I mean I still read over ten books but a lot of them were My Hero Academia volumes (greatest series ever BTW I’m addicted send help). I read a few other books but other than that it was mostly My Hero Academia.
The first book that I read was the Towering Sky by Katharine McGee:
This is the third and final book in the Thousandth Floor series and I didn’t really like it. I gave it three stars because it had some legitimate good moments with the Mariel mystery. However, this book assumes that I care Leda and I forgive her for what she did at the end of the first book. Honestly, fuck that. She should have gone to jail. Second, Avery’s ending was bullshit. I don’t like her with Atlas. Her faking her own death is such a dick move to her parents. So that really knocked this book down to three stars. I get it’s not suppose to be taken really seriously and I had fun at points but Avery man…. Max von Strauss deserves better.
Next I read My Hero Academia Vol. 1 by Kohei Horikoshi:
So I’ve watched season 1 and a few episodes of season two of My Hero Academia. So, I had already seen this in anime form. I still really enjoyed it. I think Izuku is better in manga form because I cannot stand the voice funimation gave him. Plus I got to see Tenya again WHO IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Plus Ochako. Really Tenya, Ochako, and Izuku are just the perfect trio. This was a really great volume.
Next I read Volume 2 of My Hero Academia:
Another fun issue. Like I said in my review of the first volume I’ve already seen a lot of this in the anime. But it was fun seeing Tenya “evil” and him become the class president. The villains coming is great and also seeing Mr. Handsy. Just a good issue.
I continued with Volume 3 and I’m finally getting into some new stuff:
So after Mr. Hands and the Brain got defeated I’m starting to see new things. I’ve seen a little bit the tournament but this looks like a lot of fun. It’s interesting to see other students from other classes. It’s great that Midoriya won the first round but now he just painted a huge target on his back. Onto the next volume! Five out of five stars.
Then I read Volume 4 of My Hero Academia:
This was a really great book! We got to learn more about Zuko—I mean Todoroki…who is totally not Zuko at all. Tenya was an earnest dork which is always a plus. And Deku is really starting to gain control of his powers. Plus we got more information about some in Class B which is cool. I really liked this! Five out of five stars!
I took a short break from My Hero Academia and The Last by Katharine Applegate:
This was such a meh book. I only really liked one character and the rest were meh. The message was the typical “mankind is the literal devil and we’re just going to forget animals are dangerous as fuck”. The world was kind of fun but I don’t buy that humans would actually eat animals who can talk. Like it’s super weird when the characters talk about eating Topple. I gave this book three out of five stars. It wasn’t the worst but I won’t be continuing on with the series.
I went back to one of the best series ever My Hero Academia:
So in this one the one-on-one fights happen. Seeing Uaraka lose was just so sad because she tries so hard. At least her parents are proud of her. But the real MVP of this book was not-Zuko Shoto. Who got a pep talk from Deku (because he’s a sweetie pie) and we got more of his backstory. But the best moment was All Might hugging bird boy and Shoto. They both needed it.
Then I moved on to My Hero Academia Volume 6:
Ohhhhh my god I love this volume. Finding out that Tenya’s brother is paralyzed and now Tenya is super pissed. He’s trying to hide it but he’s super pissed and goes after the Hero Killer. Then when Deku and Todoroki show up and it’s just so sad yet wonderful to see. I absolutely loved this. Deku, Tenya, and Todoroki are my three favorites. They have such beautiful dynamics.
And yet another awesome volume of My Hero Academia:
I’m so sad that this is the last volume I own and I need to get more. So we start off with ending the Stain thing and I freaking love Tenya, Deku, and Todoroki. They have great character dynamics. Then the final week starts and for their practical final they have to fight the teachers which is so freaking cool! I love it. Five out of five stars. Duh. I love this series!
Next I read Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi:
Wow, I have so many regrets. So there were many small problems with this book. The main character Penny wasn’t that likable. Sam was so forgettable. The author made Penny super into Sci-Fi but it didn’t like she did any research at all and she was just bullshitting it. Like she called Ready Player One a Sci-Fi classic which made me laugh hysterically. It’s one of those books that really pushes like feminism and female empowerment but then is totally sex negative and slut shames a bunch of women. This book was just bad and I didn’t like it. One of out five stars.
Then I read (or listened to) the Many Lives of Stephen Leeds by Brandon Sanderson:
There are three short stories in this collection. So the first stories were re-listens but the Lies of Beholder story was new and it was amazing. I was so sad when Stephen’s Aspects were killed. And then when he decided to write out their story. It was so beautiful and I loved it. I gave this book five out of five stars.
Those are all the books I read in September. School will be the death of me.
