Just to prove I haven’t lost my toxic edge after my last post: This scene is still terrifyingly hot to me.

The threat of “If [she] as much as looks at me in a manner that displeases me” 🫠 The word choice of displeases particularly does it for me.

It’s not just an objective standard like “if she disobeys.” It’s even more demanding than that. The rules live entirely inside him. So she has to anticipate him. Read him. Stay perfectly attuned to whatever might displease him. And the way he says it, cold and formal, like he was a God in a position to make commandments. Not to mention the juxtaposition of the word merciful and his delivery of it. I'm embarrassed to say it was one of the first scenes to turn me on as a teenager. Even more embarrassed to say it has the same effect today.

A compilation of Bruno gaslighting and mindfucking Ewa. (+ some clips of wrist/back-of-the hand porn and Bruno being possessive. Don't ask me why that was necessary to include. Just know that it was.) "I thought you said you had nowhere to stay. Young lady, it's dangerous out there." 🫠 I am WEAK (and wet, and dizzy, and losing my mind) for the way he slowly kneels back down to her level after she takes the abandonment-threat bait and desperately clings to his coat. The way that stern, unforgiving tone melts into his voice being so soft. He becomes so painfully gentle at the smallest display of feminine vulnerability from her. Like he softens the instant she reaches for him emotionally and leans into her dependence on him. And it's sooo hot how he consistently positions himself as her savior, her protector and her only option. And how he reframes every act of her desperation as if it revealed her true desires. "Come back for more, huh?" Joaquin plays it so brilliantly because I can feel Bruno convincing himself, too. Bruno doesn’t seem to simply want to control Ewa. He needs to believe she needs him. That he does not need to force himself on her. The duality of him being controlling while desperately wanting to be truly needed, trusted and chosen is catnip for me. He’s so manipulative, yet so sincere. I love how Joaquin has given Bruno that constant undercurrent of aching shame and hunger that makes him seem so real and fascinating to watch. He’s such an intoxicating character.

Please someone, anyone, tell me that I was not the only one who found this way hotter than they should have? Don't let me be problematic all alone. Joaquin is so convincing in that rapid escalation from tenderness to aggression. Unfortunately for me, I find it so attractive. Even Bruno's manipulative attempts at framing and positioning himself as her savior make me weak.

I just listened to Paris Paloma’s new song today with these lyrics: “[…] Otherwise I'll look for love like yours in every place around. The love that flows like blood does, that I'll search for through the years. You speak through gritted teeth, saying, "My darling, I'm right here". And it is not my fault, it's something I was learning. I only feel at home now in a home when it is burning.”

And I wonder if this is a case of that. Or if I can just blame Joaquin for being hot. It’s only because he’s hot, right? Right? Under all circumstances, he's insanely talented at what he does. So is Marion Cotillard. They were both amazing in this scene.

I have a love in my head when Black Swan’s partner holds a gun to her heart or a knife to her throat, and she smiles ever so softly because ‘you look beautiful even when your eyes shine so brightly, ill eternally remember this moment’… as you cannot kill a ghost, you cannot kill her in the way that truly matters.
