No roosters to wake us up this morning like at May’s, instead we hopped out of bed excited to visit the goats in the day light! After getting ready for the day, we were out of the RV and walking by 7ish. Hannah turned on her Strava and we headed for the goats. This time a few of the goats, notably one goat child, were nice enough to approach us and allow for a nice long morning pet. The visit with the goats were equivalent to coffee for our moods, and we continued on around the island. The water around the island was calm and smooth as glass. The trees that stand about 15’ off the edge of the island appeared to be twice their height and the island felt like it had cliff all around due to an optical illusion from the mirror like water. The trees reflected perfectly making it seem like we could not see their base.
Once back at Lil Poot we set up our camping chairs and TV Dinner Tables outside facing the water and sat down to work. Hannah, with a smirk on her face and holding her hands together as if scheming, tells David she witnessed a two.five foot trout leap out of the water and that he should have “seen the dang thing!” That morning the two heard a wood pecker pecking, little birds chirping, and loons landing and flapping their wings in the water. All in all, a very nice office setting. The herd of goats free roam around the island without a care in the world. They were kind enough to visit us a half dozen times as they walked to the west side along the northern rim in search for more leaves and greener grass, and back again when they realize the grass and leaves were just as nice on the east. Since we happened to park in the middle of the northern rim, they passed us as they wondered and often checked us, our clothes, the propane tank, our bikes, and anything else their noses could reach, ensuring our safety before moving on.
Although we discussed staying on the island for a few days, heavy rain and thunder storms foretasted for the next day caused us to pack up and head out after work. Since we were parked on the grass beside the road, and this island having a slight swampy feel, we felt it best not to chance getting stuck in the mud. We plugged Meridian Mississippi into our GPS with highways turned off and took highway 80 pretty much all the way there. We found a nice Walmart directly beside a cell tower, and slept well knowing the goats had a big church to sit out the storm and we would have great cell service for work the next day. Hannah made hotdogs.
