What about if David was still alive because the MC had gone straight for the baby as the casket? How would the family dynamics change and what kind of father would he have been to Newman? What would he have thought of their otherworldliness/oddness?

Oh! In that case, he would've been pretty chill tbh. I've always pictured him as an easy-going guy and I can imagine him rolling his eyes at Maria's and Livvy's overbearing tendencies. I think Livvy would be a bit less obsessed with her baby sibling because the fear of losing them the way she lost her dad wouldn't be there.

I think I answered what kind of dad he would've been before and it's probably tagged tp david, but I said something like he would be the partner-in-crime type of dad, the "go, I'll talk to your mom" kind.

The otherworldliness would've made him sort of nervous, but he also would've been the sort of guy that tries to bond and understand what's going on in his child's head. He was an optimist and trusted there was good in everyone.

Would the story be any different had David still alive?

Another ask that deserves an in-universe and meta answer.

In-universe: I can imagine Maria divorcing David not too long after Newman takes over. She would be so freaked out; logic would tell her that her husband is going through some sort of psychotic episode, but deep down she would know that that person isn’t her husband anymore. She would find herself thinking about demonic possession and she would scoff at the idea, but what else could explain the otherworldliness of it all?

For Newman’s part, their casket would be (at least) 56 years old when Tzr’nekre finally catches up with them. I think Roach would be part of the game because they went out looking for Newman. Maybe Horizon too? Since they are the leader of the cult Newman is using for energy.

Meta: TP wouldn’t be as entertaining as it is n_n” A fixed MC tends* to be a big no-no in interactive fiction. I mean, one of the most alluring things about ifs is shaping your character and how they react to the story, so being forced to play as a 50-year-old dude would turn off most people I think.

*I’ve seen games that pull this off, tho. Wilhelmina has you playing as, well, Dracula’s Wilhelmina, and although I never play female MCs, this one really works for me.

If newman’s father never died, what kind of parent would he have been to newman? and what would his opinion of the Ro’s be?

I think he would have been the one that wouldn’t get a lot of what Newman does while at the same time trusting his kid knows how to take care of themself and what’s right and what’s wrong, so he would’ve been the one telling Maria to give them some space. Of course, in this alternate universe Maria (and Livvy) wouldn’t be so scared of losing Newman, but still.

He would've been happy for his child and he would've trusted their judgement. In the end, Newman is the one having to put up with the ROs, not him, so.

What was David like as a person and as a father? (PS: The thought of our ma running the bakery singlehandedly for about 2 decades before Livvy and we were old enough to help out is crazy. How did her hair not go white earlier?!)

Funny. He used to whistle tunes when he was in a good mood, and he whistled a lot. That's maybe what Livvy remembers the most; how she could hear him coming back from work. She was his princess, and maybe he spoiled her a little bit.

The thought of our ma running the bakery singlehandedly for about 2 decades before Livvy and we were old enough to help out is crazy.

People from the neighborhood would give Maria a hand and she had some employees before her children were able to work.

How did her hair not go white earlier?!
