TPBoD is technically uploaded to AO3 now, but we need to do some fiddling and tweaking before unleashing it for public consumption (extensive tagging and warnings, mostly, though there is that one scene we always meant to write back then and then... uh. Forgot. It would be nice to actually get that in there this time around.)

I talked to one of my co-writers aka my wife about it only last night, after seeing your message, and we agreed we'll try to get that last haul done so we can reveal it! (If you really want results, feel free to nag @chigrima as well, though, since both of us have notoriously bad memories and are easily distracted! 🤣)

As for printing - of course! You're very welcome to! And if you do end up binding it into real books, please do share pictures, we'd love to see! :D

In the meantime, enjoy this illustration I made way back when we first decided to rouse the fic from its slumber and move it to AO3! It was supposed to be an announcement poster, but we kind of never got that far. 😅👍

Holy shit. That's... Okay, yeah, so... that's a thing. Could have sworn we just finished writing it a few years ago. 😅

🏆fic youre most proud of? 

For finished fic, that would have to be TPBoD, a KH-epic that I wrote over ten years ago with my (now) wife and our friend Abby.

That one ended up at roughly 320.000 words and took us three years to write. The fact that we finished it! And there are scenes I still like to this day!

It will always have a special place in my heart, and I remember working on it with fondness. ♥

🏆fic chapter of current wip youre most proud of?

As for current wip, I think the two chapters I’m the most proud of are two of the “shift” chapters, where the direction of the fic suddenly tilts - 19 and 23.

19 is the River-chapter, and I’m very happy with how I crafted that! The opening that appears to read as Song Lan preparing to drown Xue Yang, and then by the time you reach that scene, you realize he’s doing the opposite - saving Xue Yang from drowning in that river, even though he could have easily looked away and let him die.

That choice shifted their dynamic to the core. While there is still a lot of hostility there, that act of unprompted kindness earned Song Lan a first wary glimpse of Xue Yang’s trust, and even friendliness. That’s the point where their relationship starts shifting, slowly growing into something like companionship, cautious and mistrustful and grudging as it may be. ♥

And chapter 23, the Yueyang chapter, shifts everything again, hauls new truths into the light that throws everything they have built so far into disarray. And I’m very pleased that most readers never saw that twist coming - until after the fact, and then it suddenly seemed inevitable! It really did have the gut-punch impact I had hoped for. :D

Because suddenly everything shifts again. No more half-truths, it’s all or nothing now. And with that break between Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang, it leaves the scene open for Xue Yang and Song Lan to explore how they actually really do relate to each other without Xiao Xingchen there to mediate. And it’s... complicated.

I do like those shifts a lot. Like how tectonic plates will slowly move and grate and grind, and then suddenly snap and slide sharply all at once, and the landscape will never look quite the same after. Good shit. ♥

On the ridiculously elaborate fanfiction post - you tagged it "did that once, can recommend" - which fanfic are you referring to? :D

That would be TPBoD, aka The Plot Bunny of Doom, aka The Renegades.

A Kingdom Hearts fanfic set after KH:CoM that started out reasonably canon-compliant, though later games made it au, focusing on the 6 Organization XIII members of Castle Oblivion, and what really happened after their defeat.

105 chapters long, it took me, @chigrima and our friend Abby three solid years to write as a collaborative effort, and the whole thing is the length of three generously sized novels.

(And that’s still just one arc of the whole madness that was the Plot Bunny of Doom, and the only one to every get written down.)

We posted it on LJ, and that’s where it still is (I don’t even know if it’s readable still.) We’ve talked about putting it up on AO3, but then we say “We should just edit some of those small things we never got around to back then before releasing it again” and we have such good intentions and then it never happens.

And this is the last picture I made for it, made as a memorial a few years ago before one of those “we’ll totally upload it on AO3 and then we didn’t” episodes.

It’s a masterpiece in the “it may seem crazy to you now but it will make total sense once you get there!” genre. (Cue Marluxia’s complicated relationship with dish soap, moose, mice, Larxene vs Jack the Ripper and Vexen absolutely slaying in a dress.)

Oh hey, speaking of TPBoD, look what I found in my old art folder...

This is a very serious scene, absolutely literally taking place at one point in the fic, and it’s nerve-wracking in context. It’s also, yes, Lexaeus in a trolley zooming past behind Saïx’s back in the Darkness. u.u

Yes and no. We did format up the first book for print and got one copy made on demand, mostly as a test-run, trying out different fonts and such (note the forest of bookmarks).

We were considering making them available for anyone who wanted them at no profit, but concluded that it waded into too murky waters of copyright, and finally dropped it. But we do still have that one copy of Book One: Beyond Oblivion in the bookshelf down in the living room, looking exceptionally snazzy.
