What are ur thoughts on... Komodo 👀👀
Oh and Dragon too ☺️
Komodo and Dragon have always been really, REALLY interesting to me because of all the very many unanswered questions they pose. In my time of enjoying TPOF, I've made a few notes and theories here and there, and since I'm being asked, I will share !!!
So, the run-down of what we know already. Komodo, or Michael/Mike, and Dragon, or Jason/Jace, initially joined the desert group for the same reasons as everyone else- for the hunt. Here's a funny part, though.
They not only work at the same location, but are described as best friends in quotations. Take that as you will. They're the longest lasting members second to Jack, so they've both been attending this event for years. As a 25 and 26 year old, my first question stems from... why? They're so young. Derek is, too, but he hasn't been there very long and we also know why he's there. Because his dad is fucking insane. But these two? What could have possibly lead them down this path?
And no- it's not because of the demon. The occult is a recent interest of Mike's. So, on top of all the questions I have no answers to regarding why they're out there in the first place, now we have that to complicate them farther.
Where did Mike find that initial website? How did word of whatever Strade was or whatever had a hold on him get around, and how were these methods discovered if he'd never gotten a gift before MC? Why did Mike get so attached to this way of life in such a short amount of time, and was it some kind of greater being forcing its way in, or did he willingly give himself to it? And, a question about Strade, as a treat- How did Strade's tattoo end up in that symbol, and did he, himself get his iconic tattoo at all, or was that the work of some greater being using him as a vessel just... branding him?
Jace pretty much follows along with whatever Mike says. He even uses his old college campus as a hunting ground for victim-spotting. Despite having the demonic symbol, the entirety of it, on his own arm, it was undoubtedly Mike who got him into the occult- and yet, both of them are so, so passionately devoted to it. So much so that they don't even come to the desert to hunt anymore. They take their picks and hide away to give them to Strade, and then rinse and repeat if they get the opportunity. And they've been doing this for years. Despite all the evil, all the bloodshed, all the finger-raping, Jace is more than happy to accompany Mike on these expeditions, and I can only wonder where he may have gone had he and Mike not become more than coworkers.
I take Jace as an extremely lonely person, for some reason. The entire time it just seems like he's happy to be here, to be doing something, to be doing something with someone. Mike seems to be the louder voice of the pair, and there's not necessarily anything wrong with that- it just seems like he's the "leader friend" who worsens their conditions as a collective. He's the one who bought the knife, he's the one who looked this shit up- and now Jace has a big ugly tattoo and not just blood, but unwilling cum on his hands. And he's happy this way. Why couldn't they have just gotten into Mario Kart or something?
My favorite of the pair gotta be Dragon, though. Komodo IS more unique in character design, but it fits for them like that, I think. They're buddies who make each other worse and have a lot of fun doing it, but ultimately, I think if they were to ever split, Dragon would be a lot more "fine" than Komodo.
Some flavor for the road!!!! - Considering Mike got all this info from dark websites online, I'd be willing to bet he was on some kind of onion browser and stumbled upon it all by accident. And, due to this info being readily available, well-established, practiced, and documented, so much so that a sacred blade is available to obtain- who's to say this murderous, lustful, scarce community isn't the same one Mason was raised in? All I'm saying is, the ideologies are similar. Strade believed in discovering all complexities of life despite the cruelties and joys of it, while Mason believes life is a competition that must be won. One speaks as the hunter as the other acts as the prey, and Mason is the ladder. Strade took and took and took only because he was strong enough to, and when his time came, when his adversary was greater than he was, his life too was cut short- the same notion Mason lives by. He is as strong as he is only because he is afraid of meeting a greater adversary, though when the time comes, he would never run away from it- because it's only fair. That's life. Someone wins, someone's gotta lose.
