I drew RGB drowning in the Greif’s Infinite Flood of Tears! 👀
I think the most difficult part of this piece is making sure the tears look alright running ontop of RGB’s Hand; The Base Lines of it weren’t the difficult bit though, the finishing product of it was! 😅
I was looking back at the old pages and I realised.. I'm not sure we know how the Griefs work?
Or, I don't anyway
But I've got a theory to how these big fellas work
We know that Doubts seem to make you doubtful, and Fears read what you're afraid of and use it against you
So... my guess is that Griefs make you grieve. Not just feel the emotion, grief, but more specifically, make you grieve whatever your biggest or most recent loss is.
I got this idea mostly from what RGB says to the Grief when it's crying on him.
I'm guessing those two last things he tries to choke out are "It wasn't my fault!" And "I'm trying to help!"
For a while I thought RGB was just saying things to get it to calm down and leave him alone, but those last two statements feel a bit too.. personal?
My guess here is that the Grief is making him grieve the past heroes again.
I dont wanna stretch this theory too far but just for the fun of it, I'll give it a shot:
I'm wondering if those statements are about Click specifically.
Well, actually I'm wondering if they're all about Click, because he starts with "I know you're upset!"
Julienne and TOby seem pretty upset with RGB too, but TOby seems a little salty at worst, and Julienne calms down rather quick and actually helps them. Click seems the only one who's been angry and stayed that way.
And I'm guessing that this isn't RGB's first run in with the soldier either, because he panics when Click first shows up, and afterwards asks the owl to scout for him.
So I'm guessing that Click has been upset with RGB for a while now.
Anyway! Thats my theory on Griefs with a side tidbit of Click for fun! If you read this all the way, thank you!
Oh thank goodness Julienne isn’t dead, is all I can say!
She, uh, is definitely gonna be a bit waterlogged though. Maybe wingless, for now... D: I remember drawing a wet Julienne years ago, looks like I was right sjhfglsfhg
The griefs also have become graves
I wonder if the height has any relevance...?
And Hero is uhhhhhhhh still 🅱️oneless
That is her LEG. goodness. What is she gonna do now? Is RGB going to have to carry her?
i’m procrastinating but i’m not totally sure what i’m procrastinating
this looks really bad bc i tried to go middle-of-the-road by using the program i used to draw the Lemon Boy animatic and using the site i used for The Moss to edit and uh. it obliterated the image quality
Something about songs of grief (sidenote did you know there’s a ton of names for those? Monody, threnody, requiem, and lament all mean like a sad grieving song) but I’m too out of it to pick up on the reference!
Still cool as heck though
And this is hysterical sflglsfh RGB’s face and Hero’s SHHHHHHHHHHH
The tree is shown with a brain again as it was a few pages ago. Really solidifies the depression metaphor I think we got on those pages! And look it’s lifting off! The griefs are expressing their sadness in a healthy way and it’s healing.
I really want to know what Melody’s song sounds like, honestly. Might have to try and play it later, somehow...
Well this week we get one (1) metaphor for depression!
Well, I personally think it is I mean Mod’s intentions are an enigma, but... This is what it feels like to me. Yes yes i know people saying ‘well actually this symbolizes xyz mental illness’ is a common thing and not usually a good one. But let me be serious about this one, okay?
Oh and also the tree is a brain that’s mildly terrifying! That honestly solidifies my depression theory.
So it was trying to heal itself and bring happiness but it couldn’t. And then external forces made it worse, and the tree was terribly sad and hating itself because it could not help others.
And those others told it to smile anyways, to wear a happy face and pretend to be alright. An armor against the sadness, a wall to block others from seeing how it truly felt.
The smiles were quite literally lies.
But this burden of sadness was too terrible to bear alone and the tree drowned in a pool of its own accidental making.
I cannot see this as anything but depression. A brain, a mind trying to parse happiness but cannot. Sadness and shame hidden behind a wall of happiness but those smiles lie. Feeling like your feelings are drowning you, a burden, grief for things sometimes you don’t even know.
And, without help, it can consume you. Without intervention such as therapy or medication, without healthy coping methods or even occasionally a true friend with a shoulder to cry on to release some of the tension, that feeling will never magically vanish. (As an addendum, if you do feel like this, please reach out to someone, anyone you trust)
The World of Make-Believe is all about feelings and emotions. Why not sicknesses involving feelings and emotions as well?
Ohh I love the colors on this page! Everything is so pretty and the lighting!
I wonder what Melody is singing here? It could be any number of things...
The beak drippies are quenching what I always imagining to be fiery veins of the griefs, and...
They are stopping.
SO my theory is this is literally a ‘stages of grief’ sort of thing. The notes become more blue as they go as well. The black stuff could almost be a balm of some kind, something soothing and helping the griefs with the pain they are in.
As I said before, Melody could be singing any number of things. She could simply be playing loud notes that evolve into a song, but I don’t think that’s the case.
I think her song is mimicking the feelings of the griefs, first loud and upset but then sad and full of emotion. I feel like if we heard the song, we’d cry, but we’d feel better, like we were working through things.
But... There is a part of me that wonders if she is singing her own feelings because Melody is gone and she has her own grief to work through. Is that partly why the griefs are here??? I really, really hope not.
Okay so maybe people were right about the rocks being part of a grief!
It’s gray with the same dark orange ‘veins’ of sorts. It’s more solid looking, but that’s most likely due to the style of the comic changing over the years!
It’s actually almost certainly multiple griefs, on closer inspection! They got faces!
But the tree is getting trapped again
Is this what they mean when they say ‘bogged down by grief’?
And there seems to be another story behind a tree like this, if not this particular tree... RGB means something aside from how it was just trapped, doesn’t he?
That means more story time! More on the sun, I bet! Man, fingers crossed all this turns out okay...
