Since I'm procrastinating finishing the bright sessions because I don't want it to end I decider to document my journey with the Penumbra podcast! I've heard a lot of good about it and I'm excited to fall prey to the next podcast!

Preface: I know nothing except that everyone loves Juno Steel. Who is that? I have absolutely no idea and that's all I know

Conclusion:

I'm really a dumbass and got a few names wrong from listening. I was wondering what the deal was with a name like Wrecks Glass and after a quick look in the transcript Rex makes a lot more sense.

Overall I really enjoyed the first two episodes! I'm really curious what the overarching story is going to be and if the characters will be reacurring or if we will get short stories from different characters every "arc"?

I think I also kind of got suspicious of everyone at some point. The twist that it ended up being the step mom I didn't really anticipate because I was kind of convinved of Cassandra's betrayal but it's also not too surprising. I am wondering though if we will hear from the Kanegawa family again or get to know what happened to Cassandra. She seemed like the type of character to maybe get a kind of redemption arc and join in on a few adventures.

Lastly, Glass aka Peter was very fun throughout the episode. He did have moments that made me suspicious of something going on but I didn't think it would be revealed so soon but that he'd be an "evil" Juno was going to have to confront in the future. But I do hope we get to see Peter again hopefully with the same funky accent!

Conclusion:

Because it is the middle of the night I was reading along with the transcript so I unforunately couldn't misunderstand any of the names (RIP Wrecks Glass)

Other than that this seemed like a pretty solid set-up episode with a lot of charming Juno (and Rita!) moments that really started to sell me more on them! I hope the mystery of the murder continues by being very intriguing or giving us a lot of good character moments because, especially in the beginning, I feel like it is more important to properly establish Characters we care about than plan out complicated stories but ignoring Character (both Characters and story are obv. important, this is just what I'm hoping for. If it gives us both I won't complain!)

I'm not really sure what to think of the Prince, yet. He is kinda fancy but some of his actions and banter seem... just generally unlikable to me but who knows maybe it'll change , I mean we've only heard him for a small part of the episode.

As for Alessandra... I don't really have an opinion on her yet but she seems fine. Though, she made me want to see Juno in a setting were he has to work in a bigger group with many people just as stubborn as him! Not even permanently just like a one-off mission!

Normally I would make a post of Part 1+2 but I'm almost asleep writing this and will probably get to the other Part tomorrow. Night guys!

I'm really excited because it seems like we'll be getting more second citadel stories!!! For now even a kind of side story!

I'm looking forward to see how Angelo and Caroline are gonna interact in the future and if Talfryn and Marc are gonna become knights soon and somehow joing the adventure!

Besides that, there isn't really much to say about it but I'm now double exvited for Juno episodes and second citadel episodes!

Conclusion:

Ok so everyone seems to be super hurt and lived through a pretty fucked up childhood. And we haven't even really gotten to any details regarding Juno's brother but I can tell I'm gonna be a mess when we find out what happened.

Also, I really love Juno, Mick and Sasha and I hope we get to see more of them interact in the future even though, for now, they seem to not be on good terms. Especially Juno is gonna have to do some self-reflecting and maybe talk to someone about his feelings.

And how are podcasts in generall so much more emotionally mature than any other form of medium??? Like, I've only properly started listening to fiction/storytelling podcasts fairly recently and all of them have been so emotional and dramatic and showing real conflict while giving such good messages about healthy relationships??!?!? I'm not used to that and it hits so much more than some generic toxic relationship that is being romaticised by more mainstream stories!!!

Also, props to tpp so far regarding representation! It really shows how easy it is to include LGBT+ people, especially with Juno being non-binary which is unfortunately still a rarity (and I'm assuming even more main-cast members further down the line) and how that doesn't always need to be a topic of conflict, at least so far! (Not that there is an issue with stories that deal with the struggles of LGBT+ people they have a merit in their own way but it's nice to see some representation without it being made a big deal)

1.16-1.17: Peter Nureyev and the Angel of Brahma (Part 1+2)

Conclusion:

I love Peter. That's the main take-away. Also, why does everyone have to have such tragic backstories?!?! Like, Peter was and still is a badass but bro the betrayal! The trust he has in Juno despite that! My heart can't take it!

Additionally, fuck Miasma! Like, why!?!? It's not even that good of a plan!! Also, fuck all this whack Martian tech that's messing with Juno.

I just... I could barely deal with all this and I know I'm not emotionally prepared for this finale.

1.18: Juno Steel and the Final Resting Place

Conclusion:

Just... like... I get why Juno left but I'm still frustrated af!!! How could he just leave!!! And all the self-sacrificing stuff before that and Peter on the other side of the door and Juno's eye and just... why do Podcasts have to hurt me like this?!?! They can't just play with my emotions I'm too invested already!?!?!

As a finale, it's a really good episode. It had me at the edge of my seat (even though I knew Juno would survive because I know he will be in more episodes), it had me in tears and laughing, it had action and romance. Miasma has been defeated and the relationship between Juno and Peter took a step forward! And then two back!

We don't really know, yet, what the next mystery is going to be that Juno is gonna solve but I'm excited to find out! And I'm guessing we won't hear from Peter again any time soon, although I really hope he comes back.

I'm sorry but I can't write down anything profound right now. I'm still a mess after this emotional rollercoaster and need to process what just happened.

The Penumbra Podcast: 1.13-1.15

I'm gonna have a lof fewer live notes from now on, if any because I feel like I can't really enjoy the episodes fully when I need to think about writing something down while listening or pausing. I'll still write down some occasional stuff and reactions I have but just not to the same extent anymore.

There is honestly not much to say about these two episodes. They were fun and really good standalones, Home genuinely scared me and the Bonus episode just made me fall in love with Rita more!

Well, that was intense...good thing Juno figured out his mind reading abilities

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed this storyarc! It introduced a lot of Elements, like Miasma, that I'm guessing are gonna be obstacles for the future few episodes (maybe even this season finale?).

It also focused a lot on Juno's relationship with Peter and established a lot more about Peter's character that we disn't get to see with him as Rex. Once again, Peter emphasizes the importance of names (like in the first 2 episodes) and his reaction to others finding out his name shows how important the decision to tell Juno his name is and how much he actually trusts him! I'm really looking forward to finding out what Peter is trying to hide.

As for Juno, he struggles with trusting Peter throughout the episode but in the end decides to really trust him which, I hope, leads to more of their teamwork in the future even beyond the threat of Miasma. Also, despite loving the fact that Juno can kinda read minds, I'm really worried for his well-being and I hope he doesn't over-do it because a bleeding nose is still kinda fine but a bleeding eye!!! That's a new level of concerning!

Really fun bonus episodes and I was really happy to hear some characters again (looking at you Mary Anne and Chance). It was overall just some very entertaining extra scenes that didn't change anything for the story but are just really nice to have!

2.01+2.02: Juno Steel and the Kitty-Cat Carper (Part 1+2)

Conclusion:

Now, Juno is seemingly worse off in the beginning of this season than the last but this only means he is going to have to overcome more struggles and grow more because of it. Meaning: more chatacter developement! But probably also more pain for Juno and me! Hooray!

Besides that, it seems like this season is going to have more of a focus on politics and I wonder how intricate it can get, considering that it's a podcast and just infodumping about politics wouldn't be that interesting. Ramses is also either gonna be a big ally to Juno (kinda doubt it) or turn out to be the villain for at least a couple episodes (and let's be honest he just gives me the vibe that that is the case). Let's hope his plan to "clean the city of crime" doesn't involve any drastic measures... but it probably will.

Yeah, all in all, two very good introduction episodes for a new season and I'm excited to see where this is gonna go!

As has been the case with every episode so far, I loved it! Juno is growing more and more on me and the writing of comedic bits seems to be getting better by the episode making me chuckle out lout multiple times.

The atmosphere of Hyperion every new location we hear about creates is really amazing and really paints the picture of a real, gritty and futuristic city on Mars.

Furthermore, I can't wait to see what is gonna happen in the upcomming episodes now that Peter Nureyev is back with his funky accent and sassiness and all! He was the character I first fell in love with the first two episodes and I'm just really excited to hear him more!
