Finn’s post 221bcon OMG-that-happened report
221b con was what, a week ago? less than? This is a bit after the tide, but so my apologies but here is my hurrays at the many people and things that made my con experience spectacular
Highlights:
Getting Ep 49 released during a con (OK not exactly a highlight but serious how did we manage that?)
TPP suite during the chill times, like building the Reichenback falls (which were determined to fall down itself). Cheers to everyone one who helped shore it up. Also, staying in adjoining bedroom was surprisingly OK, as my bedmates can attest. Hanging out with @emmagrant01 and @drinkingcocoa-tpp after the afterparty clean up is good for everything but sleep.
All of my panels and meet up: people had such great stuff to say, smart comments, inspiring stories, and hilarious quips. I wish I could list everyone who said something brilliant, but at least I can share some of the awesome when TPP broadcasts the recordings. And to my femslash people: let’s make it a full on panel next year!
The dance party, with all the janines ( @1electricpirate , @a-causidicus, who's idea was it? thanks for letting me join the flock!) and fantastic dancing (@aprillikesthings , you can drag me on stage anytime, @chucksauce, I haven't danced like that in years!) and the first Fisty kiss *star eyes*.
OK, Fisty. To all my wing-people, you know who you are (but special mention to @intricatearticulation and @thescienceofobsession), this whole progression would have gotten nowhere without your encouragement. Having a ship become canon is special, but being part of said ship was a once in a life time experience and your thrill added to mine. And to the hilarious and beautiful @mistyzeo (whose response to the pairing suggestion was a snarky "Well, I'm not opposed to the idea"), thank you for playing along. You're brilliant and however this WIP goes, it was so much fun to share these moments with you.
Burlesque at Stag Night: Fandom lets us do the unimaginable, right? I can't believe my first solo burlesque performance (10 minutes! 4 songs! 2 costumes!) was with such an amazing crowd. You got all the jokes, cheered at all the right moments, and made it so easy to keep moving. So if you were there, thank you thank you thank you! I also owe a lot to those who helped me prepare and perform: @jupitereyed for agreeing to be my John just two hours before show time and still bringing all the Watson-sass, the group who gave critical feedback at the dress rehearsal Friday morning, the @threepatchpodcast crew who gave unconditional support to the idea of making people watch me undress, @avawatson my burlesque school classmate and accidental personal shopper, @unknownsister playing my stage manager/audio tech/crowd controller (and creator of the mycroft money!) and her co-conspirator @intricatearticulation for throwing the best damn party.
There is so much more to celebrate: shoving a mic in Davey Nellist's face, getting the Hamilton sing-along tech running properly, chilling with good people, playing Maurice at the Straggler's party, finally eating outside of the hotel on Monday morning with all these people I'd never had the chance to talk to before.
One last list of a few more folks I should try to have (longer) conversations with: @hiddenlacuna, @billiethepoet, @alexxphoenix42, @librarylock… Uhg, I'm now blanking on names/handles, but if you feel like I'd want you to be on this list, please considered yourself tagged.
This con was leagues better than any yet, and I am bound to be at sherlock seattle this year (baring academic disaster). I hope I get to see some of these great people again and be overwhelmed with more new awesome folks too.
