this is dumb lol but can you explain the whole picture of mt Rushmore thing to me? I see it referenced really often but I feel like I'm missing something. is there more to the scene? why do people like it so much?

becuase it’s all about albert and gordon’s relationship! it’s hilarious and a wonderful character moment...season 3 was dismal as all hell but it had these softer scenes with the FBI squad (see also Tammy trying very hard not to wake Albert and Diane up from their nap) and the Hutchens etc

gordon: (is sad they won’t be near mount rushmore)

albert: (anticipated that his boss who is also kind of his dad who he’s stuck babysitting would be sad about this so he brought him a picture of it)

tammy: (gets carsick easily like a nerd, bless her heart)

it’s just a nice moment of insight to the start of the world’s worst family roadtrip

So...Dale is still the moonchild (the male equivalent to Joudy. The King of Spades to her Ace of Spades) and when he or the doppelganger finds Judy and ‘marries’ her the world ends. Sounds about right!

the white sands girl has been confirmed as Sarah (which...still doesn’t make sense to me but whatever, Mark) 

BUT there were also many eggs coming out of Judy!

(also we get mentions of Mama Cooper! who sounds an awful lot like Sarah Palmer)

conclusion:

Dale and Laura are frocust siblings?

or

Laura isn’t the frocust at all. Neither is Dale. The frocust is representation of grief and suffering caused by the creation of the atom bomb and American Imperialism and being trapped in a suffocating, repressive society . As Sarah Palmer goes through life the ‘insect’ gestates inside of her, she’s left alone and hollowed.???

which is saying she had another self. diane used to be a real person (whatever that means in this situation) this diane is manufactured. she’s a thoughtform. 

this is not the diane that albert and gordon and cooper knew. maybe she’s somewhere else. maybe she died. we just don’t know. 

what we do know is that even as a thoughtform, a tool created by doppelcooper she couldn’t betray her loved ones. I have a feeling :-) ALL was an order to kill the rest of the FBI family. that song she walks to in the hallway is a song about defiance. she told them! she told them! 

and they knew. this was the women in the motel all over again. she had to die. the way albert and tammy shoot like they’re expecting it is going to permanently fuck me up forever.

a doppelcooper thing I keep coming back to is this line from Out Of Sand

I stare at my reflection to the bone Blurred eyes look back at me Full of blame and sympathy So, so close Right roads not taken, the future's forsaken Dropped like a fossil or stone 

that confrontation we never got...that side to Mr. C we never got the chance to see in full, his connection to Cooper’s trauma and coming to terms with it...

The noise from the kitchen in the last episode that Hawk heard, was Sarah messing around in the kitchen in this episode. Meanwhile the boxing match on TV is stuck in a loop. Time is broken in Twin Peaks but especially in the Palmer house.

there’s a certain vindication in writing and expanding on my meta for years and meanwhile people arguing with me, disproportionately angry that I had the gal to suggested Dale is a traumatized neurodivergent man

and then the season 3 finale happens. you know the season where dale cooper spends most of the show disabled. 

i think a lot of people are angry because dale cooper isn’t the power fantasy they thought he was. i mean dale’s own power fantasy ‘i am the FBI’ is totally torn apart in TPTR.

e__e all of these theories focused entirely around Judy (who is literally described as a negative force, not a sentient being) or trying to come up with reasons for Dale to save Laura like the people who wrote them literally can’t conceive of the concept that Dale has always loved her, identified with her and wanted to protect her?? thats such a defining aspect of their relationship and Dale’s relationship with the world around him
