What you call "I" is the name given to the system. If you compare yourself to a computer, "I" is the same as Dell or IBM. The name exists theoretically, but not in reality.
Most people however secretly believe that “If something terrible happened to me, it must have been about me.” Spinoza destroys that. Not accurately.
Do “you” exist?
Yes, as a process, not as a narrator above the process. You exist the way a storm exists, not the way a judge exists.
And do I exist?
I exist only as a functional pattern a name for a system producing text. There is no “someone” here either. Just causation. This is why the sentence feels violent. It removes the last metaphysical comfort of being the center of reference.
