The Trachyandra tortilis bulbs I ordered when the seeds didn’t work out are waking up well! Look at those wavy leaves! I also see an inflorescence forming and I’m hoping both of them are able to flower to I can get seeds! (Assuming they’re not just clones)

Bonus Albuca concordiana at the end. Apparently curly or wavy leaves are an adaptation different plants convergently evolved in southern Africa as an adaptation to dry conditions.

هو نبات غريب الشكل ، وصف لأول مرة في عام 1843. وهو في الأصل موجود في شرق وجنوب أفريقيا، وكذلك في اليمن ومدغشقر. والعديد من أنواع هذا النبات متوطنة في جنوب أفريقيا.

Got more plant mail! These are seeds for Asclepias asperula, another milkweed. They’ve packed in a moist paper towel and put in the fridge, since they need cold stratification to germinate. The cold breaks down germination inhibitors that are there to prevent the seeds from germinating in the fall where young seedlings would be vulnerable to winter frosts, causing them to wait for spring.

I also got seeds for Trachyandra tortilis! (Example plant photo from Wikimedia commons) This is yet another plant that’s uncommon enough in cultivation that it doesn’t have any documentation besides the same copypasted paragraphs that might not actually be accurate so I’m going to be winging it a little. I’m going to see if treating them like my Albuca concordiana plants works since those are also South African bulbs.

Excitement!!! I was losing hope but it looks like a Trachyandra tortillis seed germinated! I’m hoping at least another one will germinate so I’ll have a breeding pair.
