About me

Hello! I am a queer and nonbinary artist and gardener living in the PNW (Zone 8b but climate change might change that). I started off with succulents and still do a lot with them, but I've branched out to a bunch of other stuff as well and am fond of raising weird stuff! This is also an anticapitalist and pro-Land Back blog that supports BLM! #ACAB

This is also not a main blog so it can't follow folks back. Apologies! I would also appreciate that folks here not follow my main blog if it pops up.

Hello fellow Seattle people you should all definitely visit the Burke museum.

They're very good at looking at things through a decolonial lens, and they don't treat modern artifacts much differently from historical ones, and have modern Indigenous artists display art or make recreations of artifacts or types of craft!

It's also a place that makes me actually feel good about being human and all of the cool things we've been able to accomplish!

And you know what's even more "fun" about this centering of temperate and northern climates as the standard? Is that even someone like me, who was raised in a hot climate in the Southern Hemisphere, sees it as a kid but realizes it as an adult.

You start to wonder why in every fiction that reaches us, EVEN IN FICTION WRITTEN HERE, jungles and deserts are considered "exotic" and "hostile" and are never home to any main characters, why they're always "exotic", never "home". You start hearing people who wish they had snow in Christmas (which is in summer) and you realize that's nonsense but it takes a bit of thinking to properly articulate WHY is that nonsense. You see city planning bringing plant species from the north which don't grow here, people trying to imitate northern climates where it just doesn't work, and you think that's silly, until you start learning about how these are just the tail of actual plans of transforming colonized enviroments. You hear comments about how people in hot places are such and such and you of course realize that's discrimination and racism, but you also start to connect the dots about how the discrimination goes against the very place they live in.

There's layers to this, that's what I'm saying.

I feel like it's not praised enough how they made Rhamphomon, a rhamphorhynchus based digimon, evolve into Azhdarmon, an azhdarchid pterosaur based digimon

They had a pterosaur hailing from the earlier Late Jurassic period evolve into a pterosaur based on a family of pterosaurs belonging to the later Late Cretaceous period

My paleo nerd self is very much enjoying this attention to detail

you tell me that all the bad people are stupid. you tell me that stupid people should be killed, bred out, that evolution will leave them behind. i tell you that's not funny, that i have an intellectual disability, that i want to be allowed to love and to have children of my own. that maybe it's not the end of the world if "stupid" people get to stay. that my caregiver loves me and takes care of me. that she reads to me. that i get by with my little accessibility tools scattered about the house, my aac, and by being gentle. you tell me it's a joke. clearly you aren't like those REAL eugenicists, you only talk like them. you tell me surely i must agree- all the bad people, the ones who take away my rights, they must not be smart, they must be lacking some information to make them like this. i tell you smart people have hurt me more than anyone else because they know better and they still choose cruelty. these people in power aren't lacking anything. they have all the resources in the world and brains that work the way they want. they don't know struggle, they doom everyone who does. you don't stop talking about "stupid people" like we're a disease to eradicate. i note you down as one more smart person who has failed me by choosing to be cruel when you knew better

settlers are always so enthusiastic about ''foraging'' and then you'll start talking to them about indigenous horticulture & sustainable harvesting practices and they quickly reveal that they're more interested in the aesthetic of being a Crunchy Woodland Creature than like reducing their reliance on exploitative industrial agriculture or rebuilding their local foodshed

This is not true and it is in fact neither very simple nor very plain to forage sustainably. This kind of flippant "it's such an easy hobby" attitude when it comes to harvesting is exactly *why* there are so many problems with once-abundant traditional foods being depleted. Every plant is different, has different needs, and can support a different intensity of gathering. Foraging isn't just some fun hobby, and shouldn't be treated like one. It is a method of intentionally working land to gather resources meant to sustain oneself, whether those resources be food, medicine, or something else. It requires conscious maintenance of the land you are working, and active monitoring of not just your own gathering, but the gathering of your entire community. It requires experiential, often generational knowledge. You cannot boil a resource-gathering operation down to a simple truism and expect others to be able to do it respectfully and sustainably.

Years ago I drew a few leafhoppers for an exercise at school. These are still the most popular thing I have ever posted on the internet. So I drew some more and made a poster. These little guys are very fun! finding all their scientific names was a pain though!

at night these secretive fat 'cumbers like to gather at the sea floor to discuss beer prices, strange car advertisements and other cucumber things

while they may look like delicious plump fruit, I advise you not to touch them or look at them funny as they are very shy and neurotic and will secrete a horrible poison that'll probably make you very sick
