Product Review: Throne TRCKLRD Fixed Gear Bike.
Product Review: Throne TRCKLRD Fixed Gear Bike.
I began riding bikes in my early 20s. Since then I have gone through many kinds and styles, but my favorite way to ride and train is to use fixed gear bikes. Fixed gear bikes are awesome because they are very straight forward machines, they ride on one gear that does not coast, and will either have no break or a single break. These bikes are ideal for riding on a track or on a straight circuit and are more physically demanding than bikes with multiple gears. I find that riding this style of bikes keeps me more engaged than bikes with gears, I have to really pump through every hill, and without any coasting the work out that I get is a lot more challenging. I had been looking for a nice fixed gear bike that I could train on, and was looking for something with a nice angular profile, a bike that looked aggressive, and one that was also light. As soon as I found this Throne Available I drove out to test ride it.
The TRCKLRD is light, it is barely 17lbs and is a solid aluminum frame with steel and carbon fiber components. It also came with a great set of gator skin tires. The bike was gorgeous and well maintained so I purchased it and proceeded to ride it throughout most of 2019-2021. I absolutely love this bike. I love the stance, the design and I love the quality of the product. The frame is Aluminum and the welds are machine quality. The paint job is solid and thick. The only problem that I encountered with this bike is on the earlier models, the pre 2021 TRCKLRD has weakness in the design for the seat post, in the new model the seat has been reinforced and is a thicker seat post that matches the long flat profile. The Model TRCKLRD that I purchased has a seatpost that has been reported as breaking, especially if the seat is up too high. There is not enough metal to hold the seat post in place and is prone to cracking if the seat is placed up too high. There were a couple of times where I had to lower the seat just to make sure I wasn’t riding the bike in such a way that I would crack the seat post. I can see why this was redesigned in the new model and think that was a needed improvement. Besides this I am very happy with the bike and it is one of my favorite rides.
You can purchase a Throne TrackLord at the link below, note this is for the new model, and I believe at current they only have the iridescent chrome color. It is still a very great value buy, but tend to sell out quickly.
