Aloha, Friday! Here's my first piece of aloha wear bought last decade after a certain enlightenment. Admittedly, I don't wear this Nui Nalu very often nowadays as it's not as colorful or bold as other Hawaiian shirts to which I've become better accustomed. I wore it again last night, hence this reflection. I like wardrobe staples with a good origin story. At summer's end 2009, in the city of Hilo on Hawaii's Big Island, I purchased this shirt where the locals do much of their shopping: Sears. This came about only after walking across a mall parking lot upon exiting (the Hilo) Hilo Hattie's empty handed. I was bewildered by their ample shirt selection's lack of any which featured a tiki god. The Sears solution was unexpected and yet completely obvious (in hindsight), made all the more satisfying with an accompanying tale.
