Tuesday, April 14: Tragedy Divine, “Die in My Dreams”
Tragedy Divine only managed one album before splintering into Sacred Steel and Spiral Tower, but tunes like “Die in My Dreams” offered an interesting and enjoyable blend of power metal and prog. And indeed, it was the members’ conflicting preferences for one over the other that ultimately tore the band in two, as Gerrit Mutz and Jörg Michael Knittel alternately howled and riffed like Helloween disciples while the rest of Tragedy Divine apparently aimed for a German version of Dream Theater. But again, “Die in My Dreams” had crunch and trad metal fury to go with the technicality, and was a refreshing entry in mid ‘90s metal, especially considering it was released by Noise. The guys should’ve tried sticking it out for at least one more record- they might’ve been on to something.
