I feel like I need to talk once again about how unhinged romantic Bolaire's whole thing with Hal is. I mean, he's a theater mask who had no awareness of himself as anything but a character in a weaponized play, and he had no choice about his role. And then Hal comes along, and his performances move Bolaire so deeply that he not only recognizes art as something other than a weapon, not only recognizes himself as a person beyond the character he was made to be, but also becomes an art critic and a patron of Hal's art, helping him to shape a whole new theater out of the old to put on plays that have never been imagined before.
