Why does everyone hate John Winchester so much? He was only trying to protect his family after FINDING HIS WIFE DEAD ON THE CEILING. He had no choice; it was the only way he knew to keep Sam and Dean safe. I know he's not Father of the Year, but he did love Sam and Dean, despite everything.
wow okay so you have a very valid point ok, john wanted to protect sam and dean, yes.
but he neglected them and that's a fact.
dean never felt loved by his dad, san never felt loved by his dad and perhaps john did love them, but his thirst of vengeance was bigger. He was blind to what he had in front of him.
and even, in The Dark Side Of The Moon, it is very clear that john very probably abused dean physically.
so yeah it's really hard to over see those little details
