DIAVOLO DRABBLE...
Fifty steps, he whispered. He would allow himself to bask in the sight of you, alive, happy, thriving, but only from a safe distance. A safe distance for both your sake. He needed to, if only to gaurd the fragile organ that is his heart. He laughs bitterly. A demon with a heart? Ironic. And yet here he was, pining after the same soul he has come to cherish and adore for over a millenia. There was a time when he promised himself that he would stop looking for you. That it would be better if he never knew which vessel it was that your essence would reside in next. He tried to forget about you. Tough luck on that. He didn't even last a century before he was scouring the world again for that familiar light that shone from above like a beacon; a light that would infallibly deliver him to you. This time was different. This time, you found him first. How peculiar, that never happened before. A small tug from the depths of hia consciousness made him think of delusions that maybe this reincarnation would be different. That this time... perhaps this time, you would love him and that love would not lead him to his demise like all the other times. Such was his curse, to die in the arms of the person who caused him to fall from grace. Ah but he wouldn't dwell on the thought now because you were talking to him. A century of not hearing your voice had taken a toll on him and damned it all if it wasn't the sweetest sound in the universe right now.
"How odd. Are you sure I haven't met you before? You seem awfully familiar."
"I assure you, signorina. If I had gazed upon a beauty such as yours before, I would know."
