Homestuck Headcanons

I have decided to collect all my homestuck headcanons and also color preferences to show others in one post. I don't fully expect anyone to read it nor care for that matter. I just want to ramble and get my ideas out.

To start things off I'll start with a normal looking troll. But for now we are putting the troll in the center and will be looking at the color bubbles and color bar. The colors on the left are the canon colors in homestuck and on the right are the colors I prefer to use. If you notice, the colors I use are not the actual colors, there you go. They aren't mutants or anything, it is just a color preference due to the canon ones being dull and muddy.

Now moving our focus back to the troll, you will see that I also put the canon colors to the left and the colors I use on the right. This will be a consistent thing throughout the images so you can see the differences of my colors and homestuck/hiveswap.

You should also take note that I have grouped the darker versions of colors together, the middle tones together, and the light colors I use together to help show off my head canons more effectively.

Outside of blood color I do have other color preferences you will notice some of the more notable ones being horns, hair, skin, and eyes.

With horns I like the lighter colors I use, but also have the headcanon, as you will see later on, that trolls can have darker or lighter horns. It is like genetic variation in coloration if that makes sense. Where some trolls will have more saturated horns, while others have more pale looking horns.

As for hair, I do not like using pitch black but I still like using a black color, though I also have a headcanon of trolls having a lighter black than the one I use as well as white being another color that trolls can naturally have.

I have four colors I tend to use for skin and three types of yellows for eyes. I just like having a larger arsenal for color.

With that we come to a close about the basic troll colors that will be used amongst any trolls I will make. So, we can now direct ourselves to more specific groups of trolls without being too lost in the sauce to know what's going on.

Now moving away from the land dwellers and basic troll color palette to sea dwellers.

I think everyone at this point does not stick to the original design for fins and has split off from the canon on that front. For me personally I like to stay a little close to canon on that front and not go buck wild.

I do like to give the fins on the side of the head some color by making the membranes match whatever blood color the troll is, while keeping the ray of the fins gray to some notable degree.

Another idea I really like but haven't been able to use due to not having any sea dwellers is that the deeper a sea dweller is the paler they become (also possibly even more monstrous and giant) as for the pale-yellow eyes and white eyebrow that is more so to show the paler variants I mentioned before. If I was to make a new violet blood troll, I would most likely give them bright yellow eyes to contrast the pale skin more.

Finally, I have some headcanons exclusive to honeybloods(goldbloods.) and some headcanons in general for trolls that I just put on the gold blood base.

The general headcanon is trolls having weird insectoid ears and it isn't too much of an issue that gets a lot of fuss out of people. It is like how cobalt's have more than one pair of eyes or more pupils than normal. Because the trolls do seem to be a very insectoid race. The real issue comes when they have more lusus like ears and you're treated more like a freak.

My headcanon exclusively for gold bloods involves their psyonics. I think it would be really cool if really powerful gold bloods with excessive amounts of energy sometimes glow when they are unable to release it. Like their cheeks or freckles will glow when they have a lot of energy stored up. I think of it like how when a stove top glows red when it's hot due to having a lot of heat and when it's not red you know that there is no heat and will not harm you. So, this makes finding possible batteries easier though there are probably some tricks to hide the glowing or discretely release their psychic powers.

So now you know all about my troll headcanon's and how I have and will continue to design my characters. In addition, I will be adding the templets I made if anyone wants to re-blog this and share with me their preferences and troll headcanon's. I will be very excited if that does occur!

I want to ramble so I'm gonna ramble about my characters typing quirks and then some quirk ideas I had but not really attached to any characters I plan to make. Just kind of thought of them is all and will probably never use them.

Hollies-> she replaced M's with 3+ in order to match the sign she has. Some people didn't get that at first until I explained it to them. I am told it's annoying typing quirks to deal with

Zynier-> he combines the last letter of a word with the same letter at the start of a new word. For example "standstill = stand still." It's supposed to be kind of slurred together speech as he is secretly very lazy and often eepy.

Tikvah-> she adds the prefix and suffix that are supposed to look like her sign. This is what the two look like with no words between "Ɛ>][<3". She also speaks in 'code'. This code is how middle schoolers use to type in numbers in a calculator and turn it upside down to spell boobs the number sequence being 58008. There are a little over 100 'code words' she uses. An example is "hello = Ɛ>]0.7734[<3" it's probably awful to read through but hey I thought it was neat.

Angora-> his typing quirk is where he upper case every value. To show him stressing and emphasizing vowels to show a pitch change giving him a loud and animated voice. Atleast that was my intent. An example of his quirk in use is "thE qUIck brOwn fOx JUmps Over thE lAzy dOg." He also has the most emoticons to help push the idea even more he is animated and very pressive.

Rakker-> his typing quirk makes as many letters as possible have smile-y faces. I don't really have a reason for this other than I thought it fit a clown character. Here's the example. "The qüic:k br:o)wn f:o)x jümps :o):>er the lazy :D:o)g" If you are having a hard time finding all the faces here.

Maebel-> her quirk is straight forward. She is associated heavily with death so her t's become these weird crosses to resemble cross grave markers. "✣he quick brown fox jumps over ✣he lazy dog."

Piapot-> They doesn't have any but if anyone has suggestions for basically a possum reincarnated into a troll I am happy to hear them. They are precious little non-binary trash baby.

Nvidia-> she has prefix and suffix to resemble computer code, plus whenever replaces e's with 3 hinting at her mutations. I am thinking of changing it soon to be instead three i's to replace the e.

Ex. 1 without change

"<p>th3 quick brown fox jumps ov3r th3 lazy dog:</p>"

Ex. 2 with change

" <p>thiii quick brown fox jumps oviiir thiii lazy dog:</p>"

N/a-> Troll opens up dialogue screaming and ends with screaming the resulting message looking something like this "AAA<hello friend>AAA". More a's are added or taken away depending on the importance of the message, or the intensity of the ton. Also a's with switch between upper case to lower case to help trolls figure out the tone of the message. This man is panicking outwardly 24/7.

N/a-> this one is for a specifically a highblood. Basically they assume people intelligence level and add definitions in parentheses when talking. Making it into a long winded rant suppose to be as annoying as kankri (possibly more annoying even.)

Ex.

"You do not have any significance (meaning; the quality of being worthy of attention/importance) to me. Your existence is null (having or associated with the value zero). There is a dearth (meaning; a scarcity or lack of something) any good qualities within thyself. Your personality makes me discomfit (meaning; cause to lose ones composure) because of the scarcity (meaning; very little of) good qualities(meaning; a distinctive attribute or characteristic possessed by someone or something.) you have. The only reason I have brought myself to stay was your adulation (meaning; excessive flattery or praise) towards me. The rest of your attributes( a quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something) are crude (meaning; in a natural or raw state) and decorum (meaning;behavior that is well-mannered) . I am sorry if you find this as a diatribe (meaning; abusive and bitter attack through speech or writing) towards you but it needed to be said and I need to say this to teach you a much needed and warranted lesson."

The words that he gives definitions for will vary based on who he is talking to. The lower the blood caste the lower the reading level he will assume. If he is talking to a burgundy he will straight up provide definitions for words like "big". When talking to a highblood that is still below him the reading difficulty he assume goes to a college level words. If the highblood is higher than him he is not risking making assumptions and will drop the definitions.

If I ever think of more I will reblog this, and add more. But yeah those are my dumb typing quirks I have thought of.

So I thought about this recently. Do you guys think highbloods keep growing despite reaching adult hood like reptiles?

Hear me out. The reason why highbloods continued growing is that they are kind of made to the strongest of the species psychically speaking. So I think it would make sense that if their environment allows it they keep growing even after reaching sexually maturity in order to maintain being the strongest trolls.

The reason as to low bloods don't have this trait is they more so hide and try to avoid getting killed so maybe there is like a set height for them and to stay smaller than highbloods so they can hide easier.

It's like a weird thing in their evolution.

It's probably a dumb idea but I thought it was interesting.

Random thoughts of today

What would be the troll equivalent of cryptids?

I'm considering making one of the trolls who is a seer of void be a cryptid fanatic. But I don't know what that would be like on troll terms. Would cryptids be like more mutated monstrous trolls??? I'm very confused.

Also, another thought I had today is like can there be more chill kismesis? Like a kismesis is someone who is supposed to challenge you, and bully you into growing, and is essentially a rival. So, can a kismesis basically be two kids on a debate team?

Like instead of consent yelling matches and such it is instead, it's just two people sitting down and talking about their conflicting world views while playing Minecraft. Like they don't hate each other, or think badly of the other, and it's just kind of like the two challenge each other in a more mental compacity?

Like those friends you have where you agree on nothing with, but you don't hate them you just disagree with them and by talking about those things you help each other mature. Like they disagree on a lot of things but by being able to healthily debate and communicate that way.

It's like they don't have red feelings for each other but they both don't have the energy to have the usually fighting, and arguments usual kismesis do. So instead, they have a gentler rivalry that does the same thing a normal kiemesis does to help make them stronger just in a different way that doesn't involve the usual fights.

I don't know if I explained this well at all, and I'm probably being stupid but those are two thoughts I had today. They can be completely wrong so feel free to correct me.

I see you have some custom signs for your trolls. And I'm curious: What inspired them? Is there any meaning behind them? Or did you just pull them outta thin air? :0

Okay I can't tell if I love having you in my inbox or hate you for the questions you ask. Because on one hand you ask questions, I hope people will ask, and on the other hand you make me want to info dump so much.

Like have you seen my response to the Rakker question you asked? I even did art for that one. I loved it though! I dunno if anyone actually bothered to read through me info dumping about them. dunno if they will this time either.

God it's basically a design question too but I'll refrain from how their horns are designed after their signs, and also where the signs are on their clothing. I swear NVidia's and Tikvah's sign placing is the best so far.

Anyways to answer your first question most of them are alchemy symbols. Very few have signs outside of that. I intend to make most of my trolls have an alchemy symbol as their sign.

As for symbolism oooooo boy that's a long one. I'll try to keep in order of blood caste. Burgundy to fuchsia.

Maebel Morri

Maebel's sign is one of the symbols for arsenic, an insecticide and weed killer. This fits well with her lore, as her lusus needs to eat other lusi to survive. This often sentences young orphan trolls to death, especially lowbloods, who are viewed as pests. However, by killing pests, it allows plants to grow, which allows for life (for her and her lusus to keep living). This is all tied to her being a prince of doom.

Tikvah

Tikvah's alchemy symbol is the one for hour. The hourglass, which represents the fleeting nature of human existence. This symbol is fitting for Tikvah, as she is a character who is constantly striving to make the most of her time and achieve her goals. However, her quest for success has come at a cost. She has sacrificed her own mental health in favor of putting her work first, and she often is unemotional and analytical. Which plays into another symbolism hourglasses have, balance. She needs to find balance.

Nvidia

Nvidias sign is one from the extended homestuck zodiac, not alchemy obviously. The sign looked like an eye, and I wanted her to have eye imagery. It also had three pupils and Nvidia has three eyes so yeah. It is a very fitting sign for her, as she is a famous goldblood streamer who is constantly under the scrutiny of others. She has three eyes, which reflects her intense focus on her work and her desire to be seen and heard. Her lusus is overprotective of them and always has an eye on them. She is a master of self-presentation, and she knows how to control the way that she is perceived. If someone wanted to plot with me about a stalker character for Nvidia, I would be open to it, as I think it would be a good fit for her character. I'm always down to plot out some horror and angst for my characters.

Angora

(I wasn't going to redraw this one I struggled to much the first time, so this will have to do.)

Angora's symbol is one of the alchemy symbols for purification. I chose this symbol for him because I thought it would fit a pyromaniac character well. For fire is often used in spiritual ceremonies to purify things considered to be evil. They can also be described as pure, naive, but still have a fiery personality.

Zynier

Zynier symbol is the alchemy symbol for fixation. For those of you that dont known fixation is a process to transform a volatile substance into a form not affected by fire. There is more than that but that's the part important to Zynier. The reason is it plays into his character, because he has seen the injustice of the Alternian justice system and has become apathetic to it. He is no longer affected by the injustice in the world due to his job. He is still the same person at heart, but he is now indifferent to the emotions and problems of others. This makes it difficult for him to make meaningful connections, as he is unable to relate to others on an emotional level.

Hollie

Hollie's symbol is the sign of alumen (alum?), which is a chemical compound that is used to hydrate things. This works for Hollie, as she is often seen as a kind and nurturing person. However, the word "alumen" also means "bitter salt," This plays into how she is kind and always hides her pain of people hating her under kindness and understanding, pretending that it doesn't hurt but it does. She hides that she doesn't like her appearance as well. Alumen is also used in some spiritual practices to cast off evil and negative energy. This relates to how Hollie is actively hunting down the person who tried to kill Zynier, and she is determined to make sure that no other assassin ever gets the chance to hurt him again. She is actively hunting down evil and warding it off.

Rakker

Rakker's symbol does not mean happiness. It is the symbol for a ventriloquist dummy, which is often associated with happiness. This is because dummies are supposed to make people laugh, and laughter is often associated with happiness.

So yeah, that is everyone with their signs and symbolism. I really hope people like this. I put way too much thought into details about my characters. heh never ask me about a character's design. that would be a much longer post than any of previous ones. if you read this far thank you!
