The Spring Hike in the Santa Monica Mountains

I had a free day a week or so back, so I went for a light hike out in the mountains above Malibu. The 3 and a half or four miles were easy going, but it felt great (and frankly invigorating) to be out and about on trail with my boots and a camera.

The Spring Flowers are beginning to really pop.

And the creek was pleasantly full, even though we hadn't had any rain for the last 6 or 7 weeks.

And once I made my way up to and across the ridgeline, the views were as pleasant as I remember them being. This view is one of my favorites from this location, especially around the golden hour/sunset in summer.

Day 5 - Junction Meadow. Met some JMTers, smoked some good weed with a couple from Texas, munchies almost caused all our dried fruit to disappear.

I simply love these little Allen's Hummingbirds (thanks to @archtangential for helping to correct my identification). They are so photogenic, and their colors are spectacular. They are amazing little creatures and I really enjoy observing them in nature.

I'm going to be getting up around 4 am tomorrow to make my way up to the Angeles National Forest and hike the PCT from Islip Saddle (day use area) down to Little Jimmy Camp and explore about a little bit.

I've never hiked that portion so I'm looking forward to seeing what I see!

Mid-Morning Light in the Oak Grove.

It was a fine morning to be out and about in the woods. This path ran through an oak grove that was a joy to stroll through on this morning.

An old friend I haven't seen since probably 2002 reached out to me last week. We've had a great visit in a short amount of time. Lots of fun on the trails this weekend. I ran a 12 miler at dawn on Saturday. I'm trying to get my head around a training plan and full time work. Sunday morning is trail church in our family. The kids didn't even complain and it was a stunner of a day.
