"After fighting, everything else in your life got the volume turned down." #FightClub Resurrection Pass 100 was memorable as always this year, particularly the end. Despite wet conditions, I ran a solid first half and even took time to help an overwhelmed rookie runner before the morning broke and the weather along with my body seemed poised for a great finish. Then the wheels came off when the relentless rain returned and my stomach turned so painfully acidic for the last third I could barely stand moving. I ate soooo many Tums like they were candy, rationing them to tolerate the jostle of running. As I plodded along in the cold rain, I found myself thinking repeatedly "This might be the most miserable I've ever been...ever." And yet, I never wished I'd stayed home, skipped the race, or dropped out earlier. It just ended up being a different sort of challenge at the end than I had planned, but I can't deny that I had signed up looking to be challenged. I think what I enjoy so much about "ultrarunning" is the way it makes the uncomfortable and unpleasant parts in the rest of my life seem that much more tolerable.
